For more years than I can remember, I have stood watch. Preparing for a day I've long known was inevitable. The alien threat is real, and the world has suffered at the hands of these invaders. The world must be prepared, it must always be vigilant. And I will make sure it is, no matter what the cost.
~ Bishop's motivation
Very well, Michelangelo. When you scream my name, pleading to make the pain stop, begging for mercy, you may call me... Bishop.
~ Bishop to Michelangelo.

Agent John Bishop is a major antagonist in the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, serving as the secondary antagonist of Season 3, one of the three main antagonists (alongside Karai and Hun) of Season 4, a supporting character in Season 5 and 6, as well as a cameo character in Season 7. He was once a soldier who was tortured by aliens, forming the secret government agency, the Earth protection Force, to ensure Earth's survival against the threat of alien invasions, no matter the cost.

He was voiced by David Zen Mansley.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • Is a genuine well-intentioned extremist with a tragic backstory, in which as a soldier in the 1800s, Bishop was abducted by aliens and tortured by them during experiments that altered his physiology. When finally freed, Bishop's ruthless actions stem from an earnest desire to protect the Earth from alien invasions because at time, only he experienced and knew of how big a threat an alien invasion can actually be. And Bishop's drive is well-founded when major alien threats that threatened all life on the planet with extermination have occurred, from the warring Federation and Triceraton Republic to genocidal Pure Evil villains like the Councilor of the Brotherhood and especially the Utrom Shredder who nearly brought the Earth under a reign of suffering.
  • Has an incredible scientific prowess beyond his time, being able to create clones to immortalize himself for centuries out of a serious dedication his cause, and unlike Stockman, doesn't act like a Smug Snake over it, admitting he needs the latter's help as well instead and forming a mutually beneficial deal with him.
  • Forms a deal with the Federation and delivers Professor Honeycutt to them to manipulate them and the Triceratons to take their conflict out of Earth and leave it alone and have them destroy each other instead.
  • Is an extremely skilled fighter that uses everything in his surroundings, including his own necktie as well, to gain the upper hand on the battles with trained combatants such as the Turtles, Splinter, Hun and Karai. The majority of his fight scenes have him outnumbered as well but still managing to dominate the fight while fighting all that were listed at once.
  • One way or another, every episode has Bishop gaining one major victory or another such as acquiring the Turtles' DNA and always managing to escape, which the former ends up speeding his research to up to 50 years.
  • Sets up a trap to easily incapacitate the Shredder's greatest soldier, Karai.
  • When the President threatens to cut off funding for the Earth Protection Force, Bishop stages an alien invasion to prove the necessity of the EPF and receive unlimited funding, all while eliminating all traces of the alien invasion occurring thanks to him.
  • Forms a deal with the Turtles to cure Donatello to use them for his own ends to acquire the Heart of Tengu, all while actually keeping his end of the bargain and developing a cure that saves his life.
  • Talking Leatherhead out of attacking him, Bishop develops a cure for a mutant outbreak that started as an unintended side effect of his invasion, ending it entirely.
  • Allies with the Turtles multiple times, such as in developing a cure for the mutant outbreak previously stated, or when the Tengu Shredder was revived and attempts to remake the world as a hellish wasteland that would wipe out humanity, developing a grudging respect for the Turtles.
  • Leads the Turtles' allies against the forces of the Tengu Shredder, who through his leadership is why they were all able to hold on their ground against innumerable undead ghouls serving the Shredder.
  • Out of gratitude for one of his alien subjects saving his life in a lab accident despite all he had put him through, Bishop changes his outlook on aliens and forms the Pan Galactic Alliance, who through diplomatic alliances protected the Earth and brought peace to the cosmos, becoming its President through a fair election.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • Abducts and experimented on countless aliens for centuries, regardless if they are good or bad.
  • Ruins the life of his close friend J. Finn, mutating him into a monster for his experiments.
  • Attempted to dissect the Turtles, Leatherhead and Splinter.
  • Develops the Slayers to march across the world for a total genocide against all alien life, shrugging off if any error causes any innocent human to be killed in the crossfire by stating his calculations have proven beneficial towards humanity if 57% of them had been wiped out.
  • Heavily damages the Utrom Shredder's ship with missiles to destroy it and tries to kill the Turtles along with the Shredder even though they were also against Shredder.
  • Creates a false alien invasion to convince the President to continue funding the EPF which causes a massive outbreak of mutations among animals in New York City's sewers, with at least one human being affected as well.
