Annie Leonhart, also known as the Female Titan, is a major antagonist in the Attack on Titan anime/manga series. At first, she seems to be someone who wants to help the Survey Corps protect humanity, being a member of it, though this is merely an undercover to hide the fact that she is a soldier of the Marleyan military and a member of the Army's Warrior Unit and is the Female Titan the whole time, who has been massacring soldiers and assisted Reiner Braun and Bertolt Hoover in their massacres of many civilians in the walls.
She voiced by Yū Shimamura in the Japanese sub and Lauren Landa in the English dub.
What Makes Her Magnificent?[]
- She joins the Survey Corps as an undercover to hide that she was the Female Titan the whole time, managing to do a good job on keeping up the act through participating in some of the battles against the Titans and befriending the comrades with no one suspecting her for a while, even displaying to be a competent fighter during battles against some Titans.
- She is shown to have great fighting skills, managing to swiftly take down Eren while teaching him a fighting move after she knocked him down, having her arms locked around his neck, telling him to learn how to use his strength and the proper way to speak to women after doing so.
- She effortlessly defeats a lot of the members of Survey Corps attacking her while she is in Titan form, dodging their attacks while protecting her nape to prevent them from slicing it (as this is would shut down control of her Titan), grabbing their robes and tossing them away, and crushing them with her kicks, killing them and proves herself to be pretty hard to defeat with her strength and speed.
- She escapes the trap set up for her by Erwin, Levi, and the Corps by summoning Titans to attack her so that she can escape her Titan form.
- She disguises herself as one of the Survey Corps members with a cloak and takes out some of the others afterwards to prevent her identity from being revealed.
- She then retransforms into a Titan and takes out the troops with Eren by tricking them into thinking they took out both her eyes when they only took out one and letting them take her down before she kills one by opening her eye and then crushing him with her teeth before crushing one with her foot and then allowing another to attack her nape only to crystallize it to prevent it from being slashed and then kicking him hard to the point of killing him.
- She manages to take down Eren in his Titan form and ends up capturing him and placing him in her Titan's mouth after knocking him out to take him away, only failing to keep him captured due to Levi, a total badass and professional with superhuman abilities, taking her down.
- She manages to catch on to the ambush set up for her by the Survey Corps as she is lead to a staircase by Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, transforming into her female titan form after laughing and telling Armin that she's glad she could be a good person to him.
- She evades the traps set up by the Survey Corps using her Titan powers and nearly manages to escape the city, only being stopped by Mikasa who cuts her Titan's fingers to cause her to fall to the ground where Eren would defeat her in Titan form.
- She prevents Eren from killing her by crystallizing herself, keeping herself like this for years.
- Upon breaking free from her crystal due to Eren unleashing the Rumbling, she sneaks up on Hitch and holds her hostage so she can escape.
- She has a sympathetic motivation behind her actions, wanting to reunite with her father who showed care for her after who knows how much time she spent through harsh training for becoming a warrior (which caused her to develop views of nihilism) by apologizing for all that and begging her to come home alive.
- Despite her status as a Survey Corps member being a façade to hide the fact that she was the Female Titan, the friendship she developed with some of its members was genuine as she was very reluctant to help Reiner and Bertolt kill Marco and cried while watching him die to a Titan, spared Armin during her battle against the troops, saving Conny during the Trost arc, etc.
- She has respect to those who have a strong sense of duty and righteousness.
- She is remorseful over all the murders she committed, apologizing to a corpse of one of her comrades, crying while watching Marco die to a Titan after assisting Reiner and Bertolt in taking away his ODM gear, and confesses that she realizes how horrible everything she did was in the end, etc.
- She takes out the Yeagerists who had taken over Kiyomi's entourage and were trying to kill her and her employees through her Titan form along with a redeemed Reiner and her now allies Survey Corps members.
- She fully redeems herself by helping the Survey Corps members in their quest to stop Eren from massacring most of humanity, though she doesn't go along with them to do this directly as she herself stays behind to go with Kiyomi with whom she analyzes just how bad their deeds were as they go, taking Falco and Gabi with them as well to keep them safe.
What Makes Her A Baddie?[]
- She helped Reiner Braun and Bertolt Hoover find Wall Maria by bringing them and then summons Titans to the wall, playing a role in the massacre of the wall's citizens they would cause through breaching it in their Titan forms and causing many Titans to enter and devour the people within.
- She reluctantly helped Reiner and Bertolt kill Marco by stripping him of his gear and getting him fed to a Titan after he overheard Reiner and Bertolt's conversation which could have revealed who they really were as Titans.
- She murders many soldiers throughout her battles with them as a Female Titan and while trying to capture Eren in pretty brutal ways ranging from them being stomped, kicked really hard, and one notably cruel instance involving her swinging one around as a yoyo.
- She caused the deaths of plenty of civilians throughout her battle with Eren back at Trost District after getting exposed.
- Upon being released from the crystal she entrapped herself in for years due to Eren's rumbling breaking the walls, she holds Hitch hostage so that she could escape the room.
