I've long waited for this moment. With your death, I will find peace.
~ Bane to Batman.
I am in your house, Bruce. Come home. Say your goodbyes. Once you've had time to turn grief into anger, then you'll be ready to face me. I have left enough life in him for some final words...if you hurry.
~ Bane after mortally wounding Alfred.

Bane is a major antagonist in Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham franchise.

He was a former prisoner of Santa Prisca, where he was forced to serve his father's sentence, after he had passed away. Finding solace in smuggled books and meditation, he developed incredible powers of concentration. When he was subjected to military experiments with the experimental steroid known as Venom, his iron-forged will helped him survive where other test subjects had died, and he managed to escape, becoming a freelance assassin.

He was voiced by Fred Tatasciore in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. However, in Arkham Origins, he was voiced by JB Blanc.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • Much Like in the comics, he's somewhat tragic because he was born and raised in prison to unfairly serve his dead father's sentence. The main reason why he's so fixated on breaking Batman is because he was haunted by nightmares of a demon bat.
  • Unlike most of Joker's assassins who search the city in an attempt to earn their bounty, Bane instead waits until Batman comes to them and immediately sees through his ambush tactic by yanking him through the top of an elevator.
  • He fearlessly goes toe-to-toe with Batman twice in the same night, proving that he's not a coward as he even outright dares him to kill him in the game's final mission.
  • He found out that Bruce Wayne and Batman are the same person just by analyzing their voices together. Apart from Hugo Strange and Scarecrow (both of whom are definitely too heinous), Bane is the only villain in the entire series to achieve this.
  • He purposely left Alfred alive long enough for Bruce to deliver some final words if he hurried back, implying that he at least respects his enemy to a twisted degree.
  • Even after nearly dying via cardiac arrest, he's able to provide one final challenge for Batman by injecting himself with TN-1, during which he starts messing up the vent covers to get rid of hiding spots.
  • Although Asylum and City depicts him as incompetent due to his amnesia, the City Story "Homecoming" in Knight reveals that Bane has finally let go of his enmity towards Batman and decided to turn over a new leaf, liberating Santa Prisca from a bloody turf war led by various cartels and drug lords amped up on Venom.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • His intro cutscene shows him snapping two men's necks in a fight leaving them injured.
  • He nearly kills Alfred just to provoke Batman into going after him for a final battle.
  • During his in-game fights with Batman, he callously runs through Joker's thugs and sometimes even throws them at him.
  • In the game's final mission, he helps the Joker force Batman to nearly break his no-killing rule, and then tries to kill the latter immediately after he saves his life by resuscitating his heart.
  • It's mentioned that he helped the Joker torture Jason Todd for a year, which he did by brutally pummeling him, which served as a catalyst for him becoming the Arkham Knight.

Trivia[]

  • This is one of two versions of Bane to be a Magnificent Baddie, the other being his Nolanverse counterpart.
