King Bowser Koopa Sr., better known simply as Bowser, is the main antagonist of the 2023 platform game Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
He is the king of the Koopa Kingdom as well as the father of the only son, Bowser Jr. and his goal in this game is to gain the Wonder Flower's energy to turn himself into a castle, while using the Flower Castle belonging to Prince Florian and trapping the Poplins in their own homes. Like in most of his appearances, he is the archenemy of Mario.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- The entire concept of Bowser turning into a giant floating castle and how it has been executed has the incredibly awesome aspect to it and he does that by using the Wonder Flower to merge himself with Florian's Castle and he distorts the world around him and the Poplin Houses that he passes by gets turned into prisoner's cells that gets the civilians trapped inside of them. Just the design of Castle is pretty cool and scary at the same time.
- While he is building up power at the center of Petal Isles for the most part, Bowser creates his defense system consisting of Cloud Piranhas to deter entry of intruders to the corrupted castle he sends out Kamek and his son, Bowser Jr. to stop the heroes in their tracks to give himself enough time. Even if he does express some shock when one of the Cloud Piranhas gets destroyed by the Royal Seeds that Mario and his friends collect from his son or someone else entirely, Bowser keeps his composure and isn't fazed by this. By the time, the heroes get the last Royal Seed, Bowser already succeeded in getting enough power to force them to go through multiple gauntlets before they face him personally.
- Even for a simple storyline, Bowser is incredibly hammy and entertaining to watch as he is during the moments where he does give his dialogue and it contributes to his likability. Even his silly moments such as his looks of shock and him falling with Kamek and Bowser Jr. due to their heaviness along with a Talking Flower saying "and they all live happily ever after" adds to his charm and hilarity rather than making him downright pathetic and many others have suffered defeats that are far more undignified that it makes his look tamer in comparison.
- Bowser's master plan was to hypnotize the entire universe with his Wonder powered music and to create a captive audience through a rock concert.
- What really takes the cake is that his final boss battle is one of the best boss battles in the series, which is backed up by awesome music, a chanting crowd, and platforms that move to the beat of the song. Even better, Bowser himself dances with the music and he will attack on sync with each musical beat. All of this combines to create a truly epic final battle.
- During the final level, Bowser shows that he is also intelligent, and he proves that he is not easy to fool in this game. When the player wears the Invisibility Badge, Bowser Jr. and various minions do not acknowledge their presence and Jr. will think of anything present as anything other than any of the playable heroes, and if the player tries to pull this off on Bowser during the final level, he points out that they thought they could trick him with that badge, and he can see them no matter how hard they try.
- To further prove that he cannot be fooled, if the player plays as Princess Peach and wears the Invisibility Badge, he will give the quip that he isn't fooled and he welcomes her by calling her "MY BELOVED!" and he never says that to any of the other heroes besides her and her alone and it's pretty clear that he does love the princess even if it's somewhat twisted.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- Bowser literally used the Wonder Flower to merge with the Flower Castle, which is Prince Florian's home, and he did that to make himself stronger and to hypnotize the universe into being his captive audience to put up a musical show.
- During the prologue, Bowser's Wonder Effects after his transformation has resulted in the imprisonment of the innocent Poplin civilians, as it turned their homes into prison cells, and they needed Mario and his friends to come to their rescue.
