Dr. Caldera is a supporting character in the legal crime drama series Better Call Saul. He is a veterinarian with connections to the Albuquerque criminal underworld who provides illegal contacts and work for his clients.

He was portrayed by Joe DeRosa.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • He runs a legitimate veterinary clinic which he also uses to front for his services as a fixer providing jobs for criminal clients and connecting them with his underworld contacts.
  • He requires his visiting clients to bring animals as a cover and sometimes discreetly treats them for injuries like gunshot wounds that would arouse suspicion to the public.
  • He loves caring for animals more than anything.
  • He conducts himself in a friendly manner that is genuine and offers support for his clients.
  • He helps Mike find work and begin his criminal career.
  • He saves the life of Nacho Varga when the latter was shot, while opting out of the Cartel's business.
  • He helps Jimmy succeed in several of his schemes, through establishing his connections with Huell and Ira and providing him a drug that dilates one's eyes for his plan against Howard.
  • His notebook of contacts is written in a cipher concealing its illicit nature.
  • He eventually grows tired of and retires from the crime business, leaving Albuquerque to become a full-time veterinarian, while also managing to avoid being caught for his crimes.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • He associates with many criminals and gives people opportunities to participate in illegal activities by setting up connections with his contacts.
