Cassie Chadwick is a supporting character in the Murdoch Mysteries episode "The Murdoch Sting". She is a Cleveland-based con artist who pretends to be the illegitimate daughter of millionaire Andrew Carnegie.

She was portrayed by Wendy Crewson.

What Makes Her Magnificent?[]

  • She has been running intelligent and complex fraud schemes for decades, starting when she was only thirteen.
  • After being convicted and imprisoned for her crimes in the past, she convinces the police that she's changed by marrying a respectable doctor.
  • She successfully impersonates Andrew Carnegie's daughter on several occasions, using Carnegie's name to obtain bank loans and forging his signature on promissory notes to avoid paying them back.
  • When she discovers that Eva Pearce is committing crimes under her name to frame her, she helps the Canadian police to catch Pearce using her knowledge and experience of scamming people.
  • She comes up with a complex but ultimately successful plot to expose Pearce within a few seconds of learning that she has murdered her fiancee Ian Worthington and hidden the body:
    • First, she poses as Worthington's sister Lucretia and stages a fake will reading to convince Pearce that she will inherit five hundred thousand dollars if his body is found.
    • She then has Dr. Emily Grace pretend to be Worthington's lover Desiree and make herself the prime suspect in his disappearance so that Pearce will believe she isn't suspected.
    • Next, she tricks Pearce into thinking that "Desiree" is dead and the case has been closed without the body being recovered.
    • Finally, she subtly reminds Pearce that she won't get any money if the body never surfaces, forcing Pearce to return to the crime scene and thus prove herself guilty.
  • She distracts Inspector Thomas Brackenreid by flirting with him so she can steal his wallet.

What Makes Her A Baddie?[]

  • She is a career criminal suspected of forgery, cheque-cutting and fraud in multiple US states.
