Charles Smith is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Sadie Adler) of the 2018 action-adventure video game Red Dead Redemption II.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- From young ages, he becomes a tough survivalist because of his life of tragedy, in which he and his tribe were driven away by US Army, his mother was captured by soldiers and his father fell into a depression and became an alcoholic, which eventually forced him to ran away and wander the country alone at the age of thirteen.
- He is considered to be the most honorable and moral outlaw within the Van der Linde gang, having joined the gang because he found some affinity with the gang's moral code, and being extremely loyal to his leader until his downfall. While he participated in various criminal activities, Charles constantly states that he only kills when he has to, and frequently questions about the gang's actions, ultimately leaving the gang for the violent way it takes and to help the Wapiti Indians flee to Canada in order to escape the US Army, and declining any gang cut that he considers "blood money".
- Being the strongest man in the gang, he is an extremely skilled fighter, even described by Word of God as "virtually undefeatable". This case is further examined in the story itself, as even Arthur Morgan, who is also a strong and tough individual, asks him why a super human who is as strong as ten men deigns to associate with mere mortals. His fighting skills are further discovered in the epilogue, in which he has took up street fighting in Saint Denis ran by the local mafia, under the moniker "Lone Wolf".
- While rarely bursting into rage (though for decent reasons such as finding out buffaloes are poached by some men, and Micah constantly hassling him), Charles is generally a calm and nice man with no irritating traits, gaining admire both by in-universe characters and the audience itself, with some part of them wanting Charles as the central character for a potential third game.
- As an outlaw, he is a skilled marksman gaining expertise in various weaponry from ranged weapons such as rifle and bow to melee ones like throwing knives and tomahawks. He is also a master hunter and tracker who never goes on poaching, and teaches his friends how to hunt animals properly.
- Throughout his presence as a gang member, he committed lots of honorable actions such as rescuing a German man and reuniting him with his family, saving his fellow gang members Arthur, Sadie and Trelawny, maintaining the gang's mentality when most of their valuable men were separated after Saint Denis robbery, helping Wapiti Indians to his war against the US Army, and effectively helping John Marson build and improve his ranch. He also encourages Arthur to do good in his remaining time when he learns about his tuberculosis diagnosis.
- His honor and bravery is admired several times by his fellow gang members, such as being mentioned by several characters that he is constantly doing chores around the camp, and being admired by Arthur and Dutch when he distracts Pinkerton to buy some time for his fellows to escape, the action that Dutch considers "one of the most beautiful acts as he ever saw".
- Overall, he is one of the few characters who avoided to be arrested or killed, ultimately abandoning the outlaw life as he seeks and flees to Canada to begin a new life by starting a family, developing an eventual redemption.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- Even though he is the most moral character within the gang, nevertheless most of his screen time is played with him being an effective outlaw partaking in various criminal activities that involve numerous robberies, property damage and murders.
- While too occasionally, he is seen being capable of wrathful at times, the main example being him killing one of the poachers in a rage upon finding they kill buffalo unnecessarily, and encouraging Arthur to do the same, which is up to Arthur whether he either lets him go or kills him as Charles said.
