Chrollo Lucilfer is one of the main antagonists of the Hunter x Hunter franchise. He is the leader of the Phantom Troupe.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- Even as a child in Meteor City, he was incredibly intelligent and was able to learn multiple languages at just age 11 to the point the elders of the city thought he could potentially solve the conflict of the kidnapped children in the city.
- He was an incredibly cheerful child and an accomplished actor who was able to voice multiple characters in an anime at once and even improvise when they ran into technical difficulties. It was so impressive that even kids that didn’t like him originally, such as Uvogin and Phinks were won over by his charisma and decided to follow him.
- He is tragic as he grew up in a city where you got kidnapped and trafficked by the mafia and one day he found his friend Sarasa cut into pieces in a bag along with a note that was so traumatizing he refused to translate to others and this event destroyed his innocence and motivated him to take revenge and prevent any more victims in Meteor City.
- He predicted the rise of the internet at age 11 and came up with a plan to create a dark Web for criminals to create a trap for the people who kill his friend.
- He is a great friend and boss to all of his comrades in the Phantom Troupe as he didn’t even ask to be name leader but was elected by all his friends. Even in the present he cares for them greatly as he is seen celebrating with them after successful heists and mourning the deaths of his fallen comrades.
- Despite his ruthless nature he is not sadistic when caring out murders and is affable to even his enemies.
- Despite being a thief, he is not interested in gaining for himself and gives most of the money the Troupe earns too Meteor City showing his goal of caring for his home. He also had the Troupe defend the city from the Chimera Ants.
- He is one of the smartest characters in the series as he is able to come up with elaborate schemes or plans or figure out impossible problems such as
- Figuring out no one betrayed the Troupe and guessed that the Mafia knew they were coming because of Nen ability.
- Managing to successfully manipulate Neon into giving him her Nen ability.
- Managed to fight Silva and Zeno, the world’s greatest Assassins and was able to survive by having their clients killed so that they would have no reason to fight him.
- Figuring out Hisoka’s fake fortune based of context clues.
- He successfully defeated Hisoka in battle despite him also being one of the smartest characters in the series by using the arena, civilians, and multiple Nen abilities to come up with a 100 percent guaranteed strategy for his success.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- Despite his well-intentioned goal to protect his city, he is still a thief and murderer who will harm innocent people. Most notably when he killed the entire Kurta clan for their eyes so they could sell them. While it is implied, he might have done this because they wronged the people of Meteor City it is still a terrible crime.
