It's not easy being mean. (Evil chuckling)
~ Constantine's famous quote.

Constantine is the main antagonist of the 2014 film Muppets Most Wanted, the sequel to the 2011 film The Muppets.

He is the evil doppelganger of the iconic Muppet, Kermit, who is labeled as the "number one criminal in the world." He spends the majority of the film carrying out steps to carry out his ultimate plan of stealing the crown jewels with his accomplice, Dominic Badguy whilst posing as Kermit after framing him as himself and getting him sent to jail and planning to frame the Muppets for the theft in the end.

He was performed and voiced by Matt Vogel in his first villainous role.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • He manages to pull off a successful prison escape by defeating all the guards with martial arts, activating a jailbreak, and blowing up the prison once he's escaped it.
  • He also knows the layout of the Gulag like the back of his hand, further making stealth and navigating his way to the exit as natural as breathing for him.
  • He successfully incriminates Kermit by putting a mole on his face to make him look like him and get him sent to prison.
  • He manages to trick the Muppets (except Animal) into thinking he is Kermit and manages to pull off a solid impression of him.
  • He makes a pretty entertaining song titled "Number One", performing some entertaining and comedic stunts as well throughout.
  • He manages to pull off several successful heists with Dominic Badguy like stealing a painting from a museum that contained the location of a key on the back of it, breaking into another museum and smashing several head statues to find and steal the key that was in one of them, and breaking into a cave to take the locket off a Thomas Blood's skeleton corpse, all while tricking the Muppets into doing performances on tours in the places those heists took place at in order to incriminate them while also leaving some fake evidence to incriminate them while having Dominic Badguy bribe people to give them good reviews and give their performances outstanding ovations at the ends of them to manipulate the Muppets into thinking that they are winning the crowds.
  • He then makes a fake wedding proposal to Miss Piggy while impersonating Kermit and puts on a fake ring on her finger (which is really a bomb) and has it hosted at the place nearby the crown jewels which he plans to steal while it takes place and then also plans to blow her up and frame the Muppets for the theft in the end.
  • While the wedding is being set up, he carries out his elaborate plan on having a bunch of infants help Dominic with the act of stealing the jewelry, knowing that no one would suspect a bunch of innocent infants stealing the crown jewels.
  • After revealing himself as Constantine after Kermit manages to reveal that he is the real Kermit, he activates the bomb to distract everyone in the hall.
  • Although he did endanger numerous people with his bomb scheme, he doesn’t go overboard in violence such as trying to block off the exits or prevent them from escaping in any way.
  • Following the failure of his bomb plan, he kidnaps Miss Piggy and takes her to his helicopter to use her as a hostage in an attempt at a getaway, likely meaning to leverage her safety for legal exoneration.
  • He accurately predicted that Dominic would have attempted to double cross him as shown when he blew him out of the helicopter with a bomb when he attempted to make the attempt to do so, showing that he's seen it coming from a mile away.
  • He has displayed several charismatic moments throughout and even outside his impersonation as Kermit.
  • He also has plenty of funny moments as well like him saying "my name, then spacebar, spacebar, spacebar your name", him dedicating a whole song to rub it in Dominic's face on how he's number one and how Dominic is number two while forcing him to dance and then performing some comedic dances himself while also putting himself in a bit of slapstick comedy and ending the song by dancing on Dominic's head, him ending up getting stage fright while trying to do the Muppets intro and falling off the title card, the whole song he sings to Ms. Piggy telling her he can get her things, even things that are either ridiculous, non-existent, or are impossible to get, him trying to imitate Kermit's lines on TV, him saying Kermit's line "the muppets, the dreamers, and me" as "the muppets, the dreamers, and cheese" thinking he nailed it when he didn't, him mistaking Kermit for his reflection and doing silly things in front of "it", him hiring a group of literal infants to help Dominic steal the jewels, the antics he gets into in the climax where he gets swapped places with Kermit with the two ending up arguing with each other comedically over who is the real Kermit, etc.
  • Although he faces a humiliating defeat as he's thrashed around inside the helicopter by Miss Piggy, he makes up for it by joining the cast in the final song, singing along with them, indicating that as earlier implied by the other inmates he remains dignified even in prison.

What Makes Him A Baddie?[]

  • Upon breaking free, he assaults, attacks, and knocks out and defeats a bunch of guards using martial arts.
  • He then proceeds to activate a jailbreak, setting all the other prisoners in the Gulag free.
  • Upon escaping the Gulag, he blows it up by activating a bomb.
  • He and Dominic Badguy commit various heists by breaking into places and committing theft by stealing the things they need for the crown jewels while the Muppets do their tours.
  • He puts a bomb under the disguise of a ring onto Miss Piggy's finger with the intent to blow her up after the fake marriage.
  • He hires a bunch of infants to help Dominic steal the crown jewels while planning to blow up the wedding to make his getaway.
  • After Kermit reveals that he himself is the real Kermit and Constantine then reveals who he really is, he activates the bomb in an attempt to kill everyone in the wedding hall only for the bomb to be thrown out of the room.
  • He proceeds to take Miss Piggy as hostage and takes her with him into his helicopter to make his getaway after blowing Dominic out after the latter attempts to betray him.
  • When Kermit manages to get on board, Constantine tries to kill him by shooting him with his gun only to end up being defeated by Miss Piggy.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only Muppets villain to be a MB.
