Deathstroke, better known by his real name, Slade Wilson, is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Ricardo Diaz) of Arrow. He was a skilled secret agent and the mentor of Oliver Queen on Lian Yu who swears vengeance on Oliver after a tragic series of events and masterminds a plot to utterly destroy him.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He is a skilled assassin and combatant who can easily taken on dozens of foes even before he was injected with the Mirakuru.
- He is quite tragic as he could rarely be there for his son due to his work in protecting Australia and was stranded on Lian Yu after being shot down by Edward Fyers while trying to rescue Yao Fei. His best friend Billy Wintergreen betrayed and sold him out to Fyers to save his own skin and when he finally fell in love with Shado, she was already in love with his new friend Oliver and he never got to express those feelings until he was fatally wounded and could only potentially be saved by the dangerous Mirakuru drug. While he was successfully revived by the Mirakuru drug, he rushed to save his friends when he heard they were in trouble only to discover he was too late to save Shado, who was already dead. He was lied to by Oliver and Sara, tragically finding out the truth that Oliver chose to save Sara over Shado when Ivo forced him to choose, understandably feeling betrayed and be driven into total despair over the loss of the one he loved which in addition to the Mirakuru caused him to snap and vow to Oliver to drive him to feel the loss and utter despair he felt and avenge Shado's death.
- He trained Oliver Queen and later Isabel Rochev into the skilled and ruthless fighters they would become.
- He singlehandedly rescued Oliver from Edward Fyers's encampment, triggering a series of bombs and shooting at different directions to trick them into thinking multiple men were attacking and killing the cowardly, sadistic traitor Billy Wintergreen once and for all, sacrificing his chance to hijack Fyer's plane and leave Lian Yu by to save himself in the process.
- He helps stop Edward Fyers from destroying the Ferris 637 commercial airliner and decimating China via his missile launcher and is proud of Oliver after he kills Fyers to save Shado and avenge Yao Fei's death.
- He is able to survive the Mirakuru transfusion despite Sara's certainty that he wouldn't survive without the serum being diluted and used his enhanced senses and powers to easily take down Ivo's men and save Oliver and Sara.
- Upon discovering the truth about Shado's death, he stops Oliver from escaping Ivo's ship Amazo and imprisons him before proceeding to take over the Amazo and make Ivo's men swear allegiance to him.
- He escapes death from Oliver Queen and the destruction of the Amazo and goes back to Australia to rejoin ASIS with his son to have normal life once more with his son.
- Upon discovering Oliver Queen is still alive, he singlehandedly massacres the ASIS troops with the sole exception of his son and steals their prototype armor to enact his master plan.
- He became a mercenary codenamed "Deathstroke" that was able to elude A.R.G.U.S for years with them not being able to discover his true identity.
- He enacts a master plan to exact revenge on Oliver Queen, building up enough wealth to pass himself off as a sophisticated businessman with an affable facade, recruiting Isabel Rochev to his cause and training her to become a skilled warrior, and bankrolling Sebastian Blood's mayoral campaign so he could become mayor and prevent the National Guard from being called in to stop his ultimate plan to destroy Star City and using his charisma to draw up an underground movement that would become his Mirakuru army as the mysterious Brother Blood. He also easily deduced Oliver Queen was the Hood and discovered the identities of all of Team Arrow.
- He had Isabel Rochev takeover the Queen family's company and secretly enlisted copycat "Hoods" to assassinate the mayor to draw Oliver Queen back to Star City from his self-imposed exile.
- He repeatedly warns Blood not to underestimate Team Arrow and when Oliver's mom Moira Queen decides to run for mayor, he decides to take matters into his own hands and meets with Moira in the Queen mansion, charming her with his sophisticated demeanor and chillingly revealing to Oliver walked in that he was still alive and subtly taunting Oliver with their past while not actually revealing his true self to Oliver's family continuing to charm Moira and Thea that he was simply a businessman interested in the fine arts. However, he actually used the opportunity to bug camera under the Queen family paintings. When Oliver offered to see him out, he revealed to Oliver that he already figured out he called Team Arrow and neutralized John Diggle from attempting to assassinate him, before reminding him that he was simply here to fulfill his promise he made to Oliver of avenging Shado's death and driving Oliver to despair.
- He kidnapped Thea Queen and used the opportunity when Team Arrow defeated him and had their ally Detective Lance to arrest him to fashion an airtight alibi to get released by the police department with Lieutenant Pike's fullest apologies on behalf of the department and causing Lance to get arrested, further improving his image while also telling Pike while Oliver was there not to pursue charges against Lance on his behalf in a faux affable tone before releasing Thea after revealing to her her true parentage as the result of an affair between Moira and Malcolm which Oliver and Moira both knew about and lied to drive a wedge in the Queen family and distract them.
- After Team Arrow destroyed Queen Consolidated's Applied Sciences division in an attempt to prevent Slade from mass-producing the Mirakuru serum to create his army, he simply appeared in Team Arrow's base to surprise attack them, singlehandedly taking them down and stealing their Skeleton Key so he could successfully break into S.T.A.R Labs and steal their biotransfusor. He also hijacked a prison transport on its way to Iron Heights and used his charisma to recruit the prisoners to his cause so he could use the biotransfusor with a captive Roy to transfuse his followers with the Mirakuru serum all at the same time. While Team Arrow was able to rescue Roy, escape, and seemingly shut down the process, it turned out that they were already too late and Slade had successfully created his Mirakuru army.
- He respects Moira Queen's courage after she stands up to protect Oliver and Thea from Slade, genuinely apologizing to her and lamenting that she didn't pass this trait onto Oliver before reluctantly killing her, cutting Thea's bonds afterwards.
- He successfully stops S.T.A.R Labs from delivering the Mirakuru cure to Team Arrow when he had his army begin the siege of Star City and obtained the cure, practically defeating Team Arrow. He easily deduces that Sebastian Blood stole the cure to give to Team Arrow and had Rochev track him down. Once Rochev informed him Blood had already given the cure to Team Arrow, he bids a chilling, faux affable goodbye to Blood to signal Rochev to kill him.
- He escapes from Team Arrow when they are able to cure his entire army and defeat them and even after being injected with the cure, he doesn't back down and engages in an epic fight with Oliver that tests his commitment to his recent no-killing rule with Oliver only narrowly defeating him at the last second. However, he ensures Oliver that he would return even if Oliver imprisoned him in a secretly A.R.G.U.S facility on Lian Yu as far away from the world as possible and that he would keep his promise.
- He takes advantage of Malcolm Merlyn opening his cell to take down the A.R.G.U.S guards and lay a trap for Oliver and Thea upon discovering from Malcolm they were on Lian Yu, ambushing them and knocking them out to imprison them in the exact same cell Oliver imprisoned Slade in. He later ambushes them again when they escape and puts up a very good fight while acknowledging Thea's new skills, defeating Oliver and nearly killing him if not for Thea and telling her to kill him as she had earned it. After being put back in his cell, Slade notes to Oliver Thea's increasing darkness and accepts his imprisonment, relaxing in his cell and biding his time.
- After the effects of the Mirakuru fully wore off, he feels remorse for all of his actions and when Oliver returns years later to ask him for his help to save Team Arrow along with his son and stop Prometheus, he tells Oliver that he remembered everything that happened and took full responsibility, even telling him that Oliver should have killed him for killing his mother. After Oliver informs him that now was probably why he didn't and gives him a drive containing all the info about his son, Joe, so that they could find both their sons, Slade redeems himself and helps Oliver save Team Arrow, gearing up in his Deathstroke armor once more.
- He uses deception twice to fool Prometheus' team into thinking he betrayed Oliver only to have them let their guard down and allow him and Oliver to rescue Team Arrow. He skillfully cuts down Talia Al-Ghul's warriors to save Nyssa after she defeated Talia.
- Following the defeat of Prometheus and Lian Yu getting blown up, he leads Oliver to find a comatose Thea and appears months later in the hospital where Oliver was with Thea and asks how she was doing before revealing to Oliver that he figured out Joe's whereabouts with the help of his intel and thanking Oliver for the help and advising him that he would eventually have to choose between being the father his son needs him to be and the man the city needs him to be.
- He returns and convinces Oliver to help him rescue Joe from prison in Kaznia as Mayor Queen though not the Green Arrow by using Queen's celebrity status to project an image of him traveling to Kaznia on a humanitarian mission to advocate for the release of a wrongfully incarcerated man while Slade would secretly bribe the prison into setting him free. After being informed by Oliver that Joe supposedly died, he deduces that the warden were lying and after forcing the warden to reveal that he was kidnapped by the Jackal gang, he thanks Oliver for his help but when Oliver refuses to leave him, he revealed he had drugged his water to knock him out and left a note thanking Oliver for his help once more, but urging him to go back to his family and not get involved in this mess.
- He easily slaughters his way through the Jackals base to find Joe and upon discovering that Joe was actually the leader of the Jackals who orchestrated his prison escape, after realizing his son planned to destroy the water supply of Kaznia and endanger the country, he teams up with Oliver to stop him, tricking Joe into thinking he and Oliver were enemies and saving a captive Oliver and officially ending his vow to make him suffer like he suffered. He then dueled Joe and told him when he asked how he could forgive Oliver that Oliver forgave him for far worse. He is equally matched with Joe and attempted to reason with him before he revealed Slade had another son, Grant, which he supposedly killed in the same way that he as a kid saw Slade secretly kill his target while on their hunting trip which was a cover for an A.S.I.S mission and drops a grenade to escape after professing his hate for Slade, Slade dodges the blast and meets up with Oliver afterwards. He tells Oliver he wasn't going to give up looking for both his sons, revealing that he didn't believe Joe killed Grant, and tells Oliver when he tells Slade that if he ever needed his help, just call and ask that he wouldn't since Oliver had his own family to look out for and he wouldn't endanger that, offering his hand to shake with Oliver with a final “thank you, kid”, departing as a solid hero and ally to his protege and former enemy.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He kidnapped Oliver after discovering the truth about Shado's death and branded Shado's tattoo on his back to forever remind him of what had occurred and vowed to destroy everything he values to drive him to despair like he did to him via Shado's death. He later ended up torturing him and nearly killed him to force Sara to hand over an engineer he wanted to force him to fix the Amazo so he could leave Lian Yu and go fulfill his promise.
- He slaughtered his way through an A.S.I,S facility and stole their prototype body armor that would earn him the moniker “Deathstroke”.
- He orchestrated the assassination of Star City's mayor.
- He slaughtered a couple of Blood's guards to warn Blood not to fail him again as he would be next if Blood did.
- He kidnapped Thea and later used a false, yet airtight alibi to get released from police custody and cause Detective Lance to be arrested.
- He infamously killed Oliver Queen's mother Moira Queen in front of him and Thea, after trying to force Oliver to choose between her and Thea as he once did between Sara and Shado, traumatizing him and Thea.
- He ordered the death of his redeemed right-hand Sebastian Blood.
- He besieged Star City with his Mirakuru army in an attempt to destroy it, causing countless casualities.
