Rhino, you won the coin toss. Will you crush his skull or simply impale his heart on your horn?
~ Doc Ock to Rhino when Spider-Man is at their mercy.
Otto Octavius was weak. Call me...DOCTOR OCTOPUS!
~ Otto embracing his supervillain identity.

Otto Octavius, also known as Doctor Octopus and the Master Planner, is the secondary antagonist of the animated TV series The Spectacular Spider-Man. He is a scientist who worked at OsCorp for Norman Osborn. After having his tentacles fused to his back, he turned to supervillainy as Doctor Octopus, terrorizing New York City to become one of Spider-Man's greatest archenemies along with Green Goblin and Venom.

He was voiced by Peter MacNicol.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • Honestly, given how vile Norman is, it's not really hard to root for Otto when he finally turns against him.
  • Peter MacNicol gave a bombastic and gentlemanly vocal performance.
  • He was able to both form the Sinister Six and stage a prison breakout while behind bars. Spider-Man's first ever fight with the Six actually forces him to flee due to being outmatched.
  • He's good friends with the rest of the Six, especially Vulture and Electro (although he leaves the latter to die in "Shear Strength"). They even have dinner together in a fancy restaurant at one point.
  • He politely lets Aunt May and Anna Watson run away to safety (even halting Rhino when he suggests plowing through them) before continuing to fight Spider-Man at one point.
  • He secretly continues running the Six's operations by faking reformation in a mental institute as the Master Planner, and then breaks out yet again by having his tentacles "kidnap" him.
  • Thanks to Mysterio, he was able to control nearly every computer in New York before being stopped by Spider-Man yet again. If only that didn't happen, he'd be controlling all technology in the entire world.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • He helps Norman Osborn create deadly supervillains (i.e. Sandman and Rhino) to fight Spider-Man.
  • He kidnaps Liz Allen when Spider-Man refuses to surrender an infinite battery pack for his tentacles, even nearly killing her by dropping her off a high roller coaster track.
  • He blows up a building with some innocents inside in a failed attempt to kill Norman, and then crashes several cars as a distraction for the NYPD.
  • He kidnaps Gwen Stacy to blackmail her cop father George into helping him gain global computer codes, and then later leaves both her and his subordinate Electro to die in his underwater self-destructing base.
