Jupiter "Dogface" Rhine is the main antagonist of the second case of Occult Crime Police, referred to as Occult Crime Police: Medium at Large. He was a psychic who worked for Destination Haunted, feigned stupidity, and secretly killed James D. Bunker with his powers.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He trained for years along with the other members of the government's psychic experiment, and while they all trained, we only ever really see two of them, and Dogface is far better with his abilities than Bunker, and is far less of a traitor than Bunker.
- His motivations are really understandable, as Bunker tried to kill him, and Bunker was also a psychic the government used to debunk the real psychics trying to make a living from their powers, so being so mad at him is completely reasonable.
- He manages to fake his death after Bunker tries to kill him by using his psychic powers to slow his heartbeat down enough to fool the medical examiners.
- His murder plan is very intelligent, using Squart to make everyone think he didn't set up in the camera in the guest house, the camera being set up also leading to framing Claire Voyant being easier, and killing Bunker by using his powers over the camera instead of going in there in person.
- While Dogface acts incompetent, keyword is acts. He's actually highly intelligent, and is masterful and making other people think he's dumb. While idiots like Squart and Drang are easily tricked, he also manages to trick smart people like Taylor Jager and Miranda Warren, who are both shown to be highly intelligent and competent.
- Dogface, once accused, is able to make really good counterarguments, while also remaining calm and level-headed. Sure, you can chalk this up to him being able to see the future, but considering he should know he'd get caught, a usual person would be stressed, but he manages to still make good arguments.
- Even though he knows via his ability to see the future that he's bound to lose, he still fights back to the very end. Besides, it makes his murder seem even more noble, with him already knowing he'd end up going to jail and had no hopes of getting away with it, yet he still goes through with it out of his moral goals.
- When Ash reads Bunker's final note, and he hears how sorry Bunker was, he feels a slight bit of remorse, but he gets over it quickly. He refuses to forgive Bunker, but seems a little less mad at him, showing he's able to listen to reason.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He kills James D. Bunker by giving him a heart attack, and while it's played understandable, it's still a pretty heinous action.
- He tried to frame Claire Voyant for the murder.
