Doug Judy is a major antagonist, later supporting character in the 2013 comedy series, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He was a famous car thief known as the Pontiac Bandit, known for his modus operandi being stealing Pontiacs without trace. Becoming Jake Peralta's recurring arch-nemesis whenever they met up each season, a growing sense of respect sparked between the two and Doug abandons his old life of crime by the end, becoming one of Jake's closest friends and an informant to the 99th Police Precinct.

He was played by Craig Robinson.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • Is an incredibly hilarious character, which a lot has to be owed to the charming and affable nature given to him by Craig Robinson's performance.
  • Is a renowned car thief that stole 600 Pontiacs all without leaving a single trace, avoiding detection for years.
  • In his first meeting with Jake Peralta, he pretends to be a former and reformed accomplice of the Pontiac Bandit, all for an elaborate ploy to allow him to say goodbye to his mother for the final time before disappearing forever while framing his barber as the bandit.
  • Whenever seemingly caught by the 99th Precinct, Doug Judy will always strike deals with them, allying with them to take down even worse criminals, some of them out of genuine moral standards as well such as him detesting drug trade mostly, and using any loophole he can find to make deals that will ultimately result in him managing to get off scot-free.
  • Always sets up plans even outside of these deals, always ending every episode he is in managing to get away with all of his crimes with the heroes not even close to taking him down.
  • Having given free tickets for Jake and Amy to a cruise ship he is on, Doug sets up a trap for them to arrest the hitman out to kill him.
  • From Season 3 onwards, for every backstab he would play on Peralta escaping, he will have a Pet the Dog moment as well, having Jake and Amy have the keys to his suite for the rest of their time on the cruise, or in Season 5 returning the jewels he stole while giving songs for Jake and Amy's wedding.
  • When his foster brother, George, escapes a prison transfer van, Doug helps Jake and Captain Holt in exchange for immunity for his crimes, and as a result, fakes a betrayal to join his brother's side to unload his gun in secret and ensure he is taken down for good.
  • Truly loves his family, having organized a deal with Jake to take down a powerful crime lord because he threatened the life of his mother, and tried his best steering his sister Trudy away from the life of crime he has, being heartbroken she ends up enjoying life as a car thief like him.
  • Actually hands over $500 to his hostages, which actually charms most of them and gets them to unironically say "Doug, you're the best".
  • Fakes his own death when a mob boss assumes he is the one who stole his car and is out to kill him.
  • Even after accidentally blowing the cover due to his over-protectiveness over his sister, he still ends up deducing which is the car that was stolen and needed to be returned to the aforementioned crime boss.
  • While he ends up outplayed by Trudy by the end, Doug simply takes it in stride and accepts it in dignity while apologizing to Peralta when he realizes this is how he always felt whenever Doug betrays him.
  • In Season 7, he organizes a bachelor party as a ploy to have Jake arrest all his criminal friends to ensure he can be his best man for his wedding as he is married off to a lawyer, having abandoned his old life of crime and becomes of one of Jake's closest friends.
  • When arrested in Season 8 for one of his crimes, Doug riles up Jake's paranoia on him escaping to lure him to Trudy and his gang to escape from custody.
  • When the goons hired by Trudy turn out to be cop killers, Doug formulates a plan to take down all the goons while accepting his incoming arrest in dignity.
  • When he finds a pen he believes was given by Peralta to escape, Doug escapes from his handcuffs and flees with his wife to have a fresh start in Amsterdam.
  • While his constant hitting on Rosa can come off as somewhat creepy, he never goes beyond simply flirting with her, so it never comes off as genuinely predatory. Although it helps a little that Rosa herself is a tough-as-nails woman who could probably put him in his place if he did try anything.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • Is a prolific thief who stole 600 cars simply because he finds it fun.
  • Holds an entire jewelry shop hostage to organize a meeting with Peralta.
  • Enjoys backstabbing and betraying Jake whenever he can during the earlier seasons.

Trivia[]

  • He and his sister Trudy Judy are the only Brooklyn Nine-Nine characters to be Magnificent Baddies.
