Dr. Ivo Robotnik is the tritagonist turned one of the two main antagonists (alongside Zavok) of the 2013 game Sonic Lost World and the main antagonist of its 2017 sequel, Sonic Forces. He is a mad scientist with a high amount of intelligence, he serves as Sonic the Hedgehog's arch nemesis.
He is voiced by Mike Pollock in English. In Japanese, he was voiced by the late Chikao Ohtsuka in Sonic Lost World and Kotaro Nakamura in Sonic Forces.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
In General[]
- In both games, Eggman has shown himself to be an very enjoyable antagonist, with him being very comedic, however NOT to the point where he could be considered a butt-monkey like a majority of his incarnations, rather his goofiness works in favor of his magnificence.
In Lost World[]
- Dropped the capsule he had containing Flickies knowing that Sonic would go after it.
- Managed to assume full control of the Deadly Six using the Cacophonic Conch and only lost it due to Sonic's recklessness.
- Upon losing control of the Deadly Six, he proceeded to create a fake alliance with Sonic, knowing that he could take down the Deadly Six, and then uses that opportunity to double-cross them and take back control of his project. Considering he didn't see Sonic coming and thus couldn't have prepared beforehand, this also shows his ability to think on his feet.
- During the alliance, Eggman saves Tails from being attacked by a rogue Badnik. Whether this was to further gain the duo's trust or a genuine act in the moment is unknown, but either way, it makes him more magnificent.
- In a very brief moment after faking his death, he also saves Orbot and Cubot for seemingly no selfish reason.
- Although he did have a minor breakdown with him threatening to straight-up kill the Zeti, and is mocked by Sonic and his sidekick (and sometimes Orbit himself), he quickly recovers and retains his magnificence.
- Although he does have a somewhat comical defeat, this does not stray away from his magnificence as it was Sonic who took out the exhaust hose, in fact, he was quick to get back up after his defeat, showing his determination.
In Forces[]
- In the very first minutes of the game, he manages to outplay Sonic with the help of Infinite. Which actually allowed him his first win over the hedgehog and allowed him to take over the world.
- Even when his plans fail, he never mopes over them and is quick to continue with his plans.
- His deceptiveness is especially high here as he managed to pull a fast one on Sonic's team by revealing that he had incorporated the Phantom Ruby into a Death Egg Robot, revealing that the Fortress Reactor was all a decoy.
- Despite having an ally in Infinite, neither of them show true loyalty towards the other and Eggman still has full control over the situation.
- He also seemed annoyed by how sadistic Infinite was.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
In General[]
- In both games, he attempts to take over the world by force and kill Team Sonic.
In Lost World[]
- He attempts to extract his planet's energy to power his machines.
- He once again captures various animals and uses them to power his robotic henchmen.
- He uses the Cacophonic Conch to force the Deadly Six into his service and sends them to kill Sonic.
- At the end of the game, he betrays Sonic and Tails by faking his death to buy time to build a new mech, which then uses to try to kill Sonic and take over the world.
In Forces[]
- He conquers 99% of the world with the help of Infinite.
- He repeatedly sends out his army to conquer more settlements and stifle the resistance.
- While he does disapprove of Infinite's needless sadism, he still keeps him under his employ until the end of the game due to the jackal's usefulness.
- He attempts to drop an artificial sun onto the planet in order to wipe out the entire resistance at once which likely would kill everyone on the planet.
