Wake up, my beauties. Rise and shine. It’s a brand new day and the mortal world is at peace, but not for long. Just look at them. I pull one tiny thread and their whole world unravels into chaos. Glorious chaos. And what could be more perfect than this? A noble prince, a priceless treasure, and a black-hearted thief. Oh, this is going to be fun.
~ Eris in the opening of the film.
I love playing pretend.
~ Eris after successfully stealing the Book of Peace disguised as Sinbad.
Lucky for you, I’ve got places to go. Things to destroy. Stuff to steal. Ta
~ Eris’ last words, departing as a Karma Houdini.

Eris is the main antagonist of Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. She is the Goddess of Discord who stole the Book of Peace and framed Sinbad in a plot to drive the city of Syracuse to ruin.

What Makes Her Magnificent?[]

  • She is delightfully charming, being playfully flirtatious with Sinbad and maintaining a sweet (even if fake), calm tone throughout the film. She is also quite hammy as she is fond of making dramatic entrances, loves disguising herself, and creatively spies on the heroes through methods like watching events unfold through an imitation of a wine glass or making an illusion of a bubble bath to relax in with the bubbles representing events as they are unfolding.
  • She manipulates Sinbad into making a deal with her to steal the Book of Peace for her, but suspects he would back out at the last minute. Instead, she steals the book herself by disguising herself as Sinbad to knock the only guard out and leave Sinbad’s dagger, which she had stolen, behind to frame Sinbad.
  • She ensures Proteus would take Sinbad’s spot to be executed as part of her master plan all along to have Proteus executed so that without a rightful heir, Syracuse would fall into chaos.
  • She sends numerous obstacles at the Sinbad and his crew’s way with them narrowly being able to survive only due to the intervention of Marina (who had stowed away on Sinbad’s ship).
  • She congratulates Sinbad and Marina for being the first people to make it to her realm alive and acts polite (even if it is fake) to them even offering her “guests” accommodations to sit and make themselves comfortable.
  • She offers Sinbad a genuine deal to return the Book of Peace if he answers a question truthfully to her, would he be willing to go back and die to save Proteus if he failed and successfully breaks him into thinking he is just a no-good thief.
  • When a depressed Sinbad returns to be executed, she saves him at the last-second by shattering the executioner’s blade and appearing to the city, revealing that this was part of her test to see if Sinbad was being truthful which he had proven albeit unintentionally.
  • Despite briefly losing her cool that Sinbad actually told the truth, she kept her deal and still maintained her power over him, saying he's lucky to escape her wrath.
  • She uses Sinbad’s own words in the beginning of the film, “I’ve got places to go. Things to destroy. Stuff to steal.” to bid farewell to him and vanish, ending the film as a Karma Houdini.

What Makes Her a Baddie?[]

  • She is heavily implied to have killed people before with her comment to Sinbad and Marina that they were the first to reach her realm “alive that is”. Before she sadistically laughs about it.
  • She mentioned wanting to make the world like her lair , which is a deserted wasteland , implying she wanted to end the world.
  • She stole the Book of Peace and framed Sinbad for it, knowing Proteus would take his place to be executed in her plan to get rid of the rightful heir of Syracuse and drive the city to ruins.
