Fad is a minor antagonist in the 1998 anime series Cowboy Bebop, serving as one of the two main antagonists in the episode Black Dog Serenade. He was a former member of the European Syndicate who became a cop in the ISSP. He was also the former partner of Jet Black.

He was voiced by Masashi Hirose in the Japanese version, and by Doug Lee in the English dub.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • His reasons for why he shot Jet's arm off are pretty understandable, since he actualy wanted to keep Jet safe since he would have to kill him if Jet didn't leave the Syndicate due to its rules.
  • He was able to lie to Jet for at least 7 years about the loss of his arm, with his lies being so well made that Jet didn't even think he was responsible for it during all that time.
  • He is very friendly and affable towards Jet, and while he does manipulate him, Fad truly sees him as a friend.
  • He is able to convince Jet in helping him kill Udai when the latter escaped from prison so he could be able to hide what happened to Jet's arm.
  • He tried to create a strategic attack on the prison ship Udai was in, only for Jet to attack it without warning Fad.
  • Fad is able to fight against the inmates in Udai's prison ship by himself without any help from Jet and presumably with ease.
  • After Jet finds out about him being responsible for the loss of his arm, he shows no enjoyment in what he did and tries to explain that he did it to save his life.
  • Allows Jet to kill him due to their friendship and even have a last moment with each other before he dies from the wound from Jet's gunshot.
  • His death is played for sympathy, as despite what he did to Jet, the latter still feels sorry for him and even makes it look like he died while trying to stop Udai to honor him.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • He conspired with Udai so he could convince Jet to leave the Syndicate and cutting his arm in order to do so. While he had good intentions, the latter event would lead to Jet suffering from some form of PTSD as a result of the loss of his left arm.
  • He kills Udai so he could hide the truth from Jet, even if the former deserved to die due to the amount of people he killed.
