~ "The Man with the Golden Gun" on Francisco Scaramanga. |
Francisco Scaramanga is the titular main antagonist of the 1965 James Bond novel The Man with the Golden Gun, and its 1974 live action film adaptation of the same name. He is a powerful and ruthless freelance assassin equipped with a special gun made of pure gold.
He was portrayed by the late Sir Christopher Lee in the film.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He overall lacks the grandiose evil and overtly vile schemes usual Bond villains have while avoiding the usual pitfalls they suffer from.
- He is an extremely talented killer, learning his skills and proficiency when he killed the abusive elephant trainer. He manages to shoot Andrea Anders in the middle of a crowded stadium without anybody noticing.
- He is affable, charming and gentlemanly to his enemies and allies. He engages Bond in cultured chat with dignified drinks and also challenges him to a fair duel, rather than killing him immediately as that would be too easy.
- He had his assistant Nick Nack to hire assassins to come to his island and kill Scaramanga as a challenge, and successfully killed all of them.
- Outplayed his employer Hai Fat and to take over his empire by stealing the Solex for himself so he can sell it to the highest bidder for profit, and so he can retire.
- Although one of his quotes implied that he abused his female assistant, this theory comes from a pretty vague line that and whatever that vaguely implies he is even remotely misogynistic may not even be true.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He killed many people and enjoys his killings.
- He murdered his mistress Andrea when she betrayed him.
