“ | For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me... it was Tuesday. | „ |
~ Bison's most famous quote. |
“ | Why do they still call me a warlord? And mad? All I want to do is to create the perfect genetic soldier! Not for power, not for evil, but for good. Carlos Blanka will be the first of many - they shall march out of my laboratory and sweep away every adversary, every creed, every nation, until the very planet is in the loving grip of the Pax Bisonica. And then peace will reign, and the world, and all humanity, shall bow to me in humble gratitude. | „ |
~ M. Bison's delusional plan. |
M. Bison is the main antagonist of the 1994 film Street Fighter, adapted from the video game franchise of the same name. Formerly a feared drug lord, he has become a charismatic general who seeks to conquer the world with an army of super-soldiers.
He was played by the late Raúl Juliá in his final role.
What makes him magnificent?[]
- He is given a very hammy and charismatic performance by Raúl Juliá, who might be the only reason the film is even remembered. This is made even more impressive considering he did this as a gift to his children after being aware that he might die soon.
- Unlike his game counterpart, he has genuine good intentions in wanting to conquer the world, intending to eliminate war and conflict and build a single unified nation where all will live in peace under his rule.
- He has an elaborate plan for world domination, taking world leaders hostage as a front for a scheme to create an army of super-soldiers and getting outside investors to fund his plans.
- When soldiers attempt to rescue the hostages, Bison invites them to fight him personally, broadcasting this on live TV as a show of power.
- He plans to create his own currency, "Bison Dollars" and kidnap the queen of England to force them to submit to this.
- He captures two of the Street Fighters and gets them to reveal Chun-Li's plan, allowing him to capture her as well.
- He has genuine respect for his enemies, mourning Guile when he is presumed dead, as he wanted to kill Guile himself in honorable combat, and is sincerely apologetic to Chun-Li for killing her father, noting that it wasn't personal.
- He is adept at foreseeing many of the heroes' moves, such as Guile having faked his death.
- He equips himself with technology to restart his heart when he fights Guile, exploiting this to take Guile by surprise and blast him with lightning.
- Despite being assumed dead, he reveals himself to be alive in the final scene and coolly restarts his plan for world domination.
What makes him a baddie?[]
- He was a feared drug lord in the past, routinely raiding villages. He can't even remember killing Chun-Li's father, considering it to have been just a Tuesday.
- He takes world leaders hostage and threatens to kill them in three days if his ransom demand is not met.
- He wants to conquer the world with an army of super-soldiers, brainwashing Guile's friend Charles Blanka as a test subject.
- He threatens Dr. Dhalsim for calling him "mad" and only spares him because the doctor is useful to him.
- He sends Charlie to kill the hostages when his demands are not met, failing only because the brainwashing has been reversed.
- He's eager to kill Guile in single combat, equipping himself with technology to give him the advantage over Guile.
