The Genie of Kuo is the main antagonist of the story "The Man Who Bought A Genie", from Hand of Fate issue #11. He is an ancient genie who seeks to punish the immoral gold-digger August Ridley for betraying the woman who loved him.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- His entire goal is to punish men who seduce and betray women for their money, allowing the audience to root for him over Ridley.
- He devises a lengthy Xanatos Gambit against Ridley to punish him for his various crimes. Ridley even knows that the Genie is manipulating him but has no alternative except to follow his advice.
- He sends Ridley's fiancée a diary where he admits he would kill her for her money, making Ridley panic.
- He has Ridley send Annabelle an antique chest to distract her while hiding that this is part of his plan.
- He convinces Jeremy Hall that the chest is Ridley's strongbox knowing that Hall will try to rob it.
- He tricks Ridley into attacking Hall and accidentally detonating Hall's nitroglycerine to kill them both.
- Even though Ridley survives the explosion, he anticipated this and has a backup plan in place by using the incriminating diary to frame him for Annabelle's murder.
What Makes Him A Baddie?[]
- His scheme results in Jeremy Hall murdering the innocent Annabelle, which he doesn't seem to regret.
- He frames Ridley for a murder he didn't commit and gets him executed.
