~ Professor Souichi Tomoe |
Germatoid otherwise known by his stolen identity Doctor Souichi Tomoe is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Mistress 9) of Sailor Moon S, the third season of the Sailor Moon anime based on the manga series of the same name. He is a powerful and intelligent daimon who after possessing Souichi Tomoe began leading the Death Busters in order to revive Mistress 9 and Pharoah 90. He is one of the two archenemies (alongside Mistress 9) of Sailor Saturn.
He was voiced by Akira Kamiya in the original Japanese release and in English by Jeff Lumby in the Cloverway dub and by Keith Silverstein in the Viz dub.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He is incredibly intelligent and although he's not supremely powerful he's strong enough to give a decent fight to two of the Sailor Guardians at once and uses all that he has at his disposal to accomplish his goals.
- He is actually successful in his ultimate goal of reviving his Mistress 9 and Pharoah 90, only being defeated afterwards.
- He is very charismatic and manipulative, being able to successfully pose himself off as the real Professor Tomoe after possessing his body and he doesn't drop the façade until he's exposed and there's no reason to keep it up anymore with the only people since he'd already gotten what he wanted, with the only people suspecting his true identity being Neptune and Uranus.
- He is affably evil in general being reasonably polite and friendly to most people he encounters outside of his work with the Death Busters and he is also a benevolent boss who is genuinely nice and friendly with his minions who in return seem to like him a lot, in stark contrast to the other big bads who give their subordinates horrible, inhumane and sometimes even deadly punishments Germatoid instead mainly just gives them telling's off or warnings and even has some moments of understanding and patience with them, he even goes as far as to revive Kaorinite after her first death.
- He's pragmatic and not needlessly cruel although does have a slight sadistic streak, being somewhat nice to Hotaru while possessing her father and allowing her to have fun and enjoy herself before Mistress 9 was ready to be re-awoken with no real benefit to his cause being gained from this. He also gladly allowed the Sailor Guardians to fight the Daimons that were accidentally unleashed in his house by Mimete, not dropping his façade as what they were doing was in his best interest.
- He is very eccentric and kooky with several hammy and over the top moments although none to the level where they take away his effectiveness or competence, making him an entertaining and funny card-carrying villain, and at the same time his imposing design when in the shadows (as seen above) which makes up the majority of his screen time also gives him a truly unsettling appearance to counter his more comedic traits.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He forcibly took over Professor Tomoe's body in exchange for the badly injured Horatu's life.
- Affably evil though he may be it doesn't change how ruthless he is, willingly working with Mistress 9 and Pharoah 90 in their goals of wiping out all life on earth.
- He is responsible for many of the crimes committed by the Witches Five and Death Busters and its made clear that the attempts of having pure hearts extracted is not a pleasant experience for the victims.
- Although at first he was nice and a reasonably decent father to Hotaru when the time came to use her for Mistress 9's revival he willingly continued with the act as he chose her to be her host, throughout the season we see the effects Mistress 9's presence has on Hotaru with her being rather frail and sickly, prone to fainting and struggling thanks to her influence.
- He does have a slight sadistic streak although it is cancelled out by his more likeable qualities.
