| “ | I plan on defeating your boss and taking over this city. In order to get rid of gangsters that sell drugs to children, I'm going to have become a gangster myself. | „ |
| ~ Giorno informing Bucciarati his goal to reform Passione. |
Giorno Giovanna, born as Haruno Shiobana, is the main protagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part V: Golden Wind. He is one of illegitimate sons of DIO Brando sired with Jonathan Joestar’s body, essentially being a combination of Joestar and DIO bloodlines. Despite inheriting his father’s charisma and ruthlessness, he retained the Joestar righteousness, desiring to end the drug trade in Italy by overthrowing Passione's boss.
He is voiced by Kensho Ono in Japanese, and Phillip Reich in English.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
In General[]
- He has a very epic theme song in the anime adaptation, Il Vento Aureo.
- His Stand, Gold Experience, has a very interesting ability of transforming objects into flora or fauna or back to normal (as well as the secondary ability of transferring and reflecting blows along with regressing senses). After Giorno pierces himself with the Requiem Arrow, his strong spirit is rewarded with Gold Experience becoming Gold Experience Requiem, which can nullify an event and fully revert it, arguably making Gold Experience Requiem one of the most powerful Stands in the entire series.
- In combat, he always comes up with strategies to defeat his enemies, expertly and cleverly using the abilities of his stand.
- While he killed most of the enemies he encountered, they were are all evil people, whose death were necessary to put a stop to their plans.
Vento Aureo[]
- He returned a woman's wallet and used his Stand to turn some of the money in it into butterflies.
- Spent some of his teen years successfully scamming many tourists at the Naples airport, even managing to scam Koichi for his luggage. When the boy revealed he also has a Stand, Giorno quickly turned his luggage into a frog, and then utilised his Gold Experience to fight back Koichi’s Echoes, ultimately escaping him, but also sparring his life after realizing he’s a good person due to now fighting in full strength.
- Exploited Bruno Bucciarati’s attack on him, that split his limbs off via zippers, by throwing his dismembered arm back at him to hit him with Gold Experience, defeating him. However, having seen hesitation in Bruno’s eyes when they were fighting, as well as his shock at discovering that the boy, whose arm Bruno temporarily swapped with his, takes drugs, he was convinced that he’s a good person and spared his life.
- His honorable nature and determination to end the drug trade was enough to convince Bucciarati to join his crusade, due to also being disgusted with drug distribution.
- Somehow managed to steal a guard’s wallet during his inspection when on the way to meet Polpo.
- When challenged by Polpo to keep a lighter active for next 24 hours, Giorno turned it into a flower to get past the guards, and then made several precautions to keep it active, even when Koichi unexpectedly intervenes by distracting him with his stolen passport, only getting it put down by pure coincidence when passing near janitor.
- With Koichi’s help, he outsmarted and defeated Polpo’s Stand, Black Sabbath, before ultimately convincing Koichi that he’s not like his father through his dream and previous acts of sparing the boy’s life.
- Used an opening left by Polpo giving him a Passione badge to secretly turn one of capo’s guns into a banana, tricking Polpo into shooting himself as revenge for getting innocent janitor killed by his Stand. This indirectly allowed Bucciarati to attain the capo rank and kick-started the chain of events that ultimately culminated in the Boss’ defeat.
- Quickly figured out the tea Abbachio served him was his piss, but drank it anyway to earn Team Bucciarati’s loyalty, while secretly turning his tooth into a jellyfish to absorb the piss.
- Using Gold Experince on Naranchia’s boot, he figured out that Narancia, Mista and Fugo aren’t dead yet and then allowed himself to be captured by Zucchero, so the distrustful Abbachio could save them all with his Stand.
- Allowed himself to be infected with Fugo’s flesh-eating virus and then be brought into Illuso’s mirror world, so he can infect the hitman with virus. When Illuso counters it by leaving his infected parts in his mirror world, Giorno was revealed to have prepared a counter in form of a snake he created in a cloud of virus, getting Illuso exposed to Fugo’s Stand and creating an antidote for himself.
- Figured out how exactly Prosciutto's Stand, Graceful Dead, works, which gave Bucciarati and Mista an edge against him.
- Upon analyzing the similarities between his Stand and Melone’s Baby Face, he developed his healing abilities, which saved lives of his comrades many times. He then tricked Baby Face into absorbing a motorcycle parts, which he then ignited, defeating the Stand and turning its remains into a snake that tracked down and killed Melone.
- Realizing that Diavolo planned to betray Bucciarati, Giorno spear-headed the campaign to rescue him and stopped Diavolo in time. It was only due to this that Bucciarati was able to temporarily revive himself and stop his boss.
- Skillfully helped Narancia defeat Squalo and Tiziano.
- Tricked Cioccolata into letting his guard down, and grievously injured him by firing a stag beetle into his head.
- Due to Cioccolata's heinous crimes, Giorno successfully tricked him and gave him a severe beatdown at the hands of Gold Experience.
- Stopped Diavolo from getting the Requiem Arrow and defeated Diavolo with Gold Experience Requiem.
- He successfully took over as the new Boss of Passione and began rectifying all of the Organization's worst actions, mainly its drug trade.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- As mentioned previously, he was a criminal by stealing items from others. For example, he took for himself some money from the wallet he gave back to the woman. He also never truly reforms his criminal ways.
- Showed some lethality to his enemies, although it was necessary as they were very ruthless mobsters, more so than him. The most extreme and infamous example of this is Diavolo's fate, who is cursed by Gold Experience Requiem (which, although a separate being, is nonetheless born from Giorno's soul) to an infinite death loop, although Giorno had no knowledge about what his Requiem Stand will evolve into when he pierced the Arrow.
- Although the Organization will become more honorable under him, now that Giorno is the new Boss of Passione he will have to enable many crimes and immoral acts that are necessary for a mob organization to function, such as extortion, smuggling and corruption of officials. However, this is mostly Fridge Horror.
Trivia[]
- He is the first Magnificent Baddie/Near Pure Good crossover, followed by Mr. Wolf, Diane Foxington, Bruno Bucciarati, Killua Zoldyck, The Animator, Game Meta Knight, Sasha Waybright, Will Turner, and Hinata Sakaguchi.
- Giorno is the only JoJo to be a Magnificent Baddie, as well as one of the two heroic characters from the series, alongside Bruno Bucciarati, to be MBs. Coincidentally, both come from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind.
