Harold “Harry” Lime is the main antagonist of the 1949 British film noir The Third Man. He is an arms dealer who diluted penicillin and faked his own death, kicking off the plot of the film.

He was portrayed by the late Orson Welles.

What Makes Him Magnificent?

• He is very charismatic and charming, successfully manipulating others while giving iconic monologues.
• He displays a lot of intelligence and constantly thinks on his feet, namely during the climax.
• He spends most of the movie flawlessly playing everyone, even elaborately faking his own death.
• He calmly accepts his actual death with dignity, nodding at Holly to finish him off in the sewer.
• Despite being Pure Evil, he is not sadistic in any way.
