“ | Connection terminated. I'm sorry to interrupt you, Elizabeth, if you still even remember that name, but I'm afraid you've been misinformed: you are not here to receive a gift, nor have you been called here by the individual you assume; although, you have indeed been called. You have all been called here, into a labyrinth of sounds and smells, misdirection and misfortune; a labyrinth with no exit, a maze with no prize. You don't even realize that you are trapped. Your lust of blood has driven you in endless circles, chasing the cries of children in some unseen chamber: always seeming so near, yet somehow out of reach. But, you will never find them, none of you will. This is where your story ends. And to you, my brave volunteer, who somehow found this job listing not intended for you; although, there was a way out planned for you, I have a feeling that's not what you want. I have a feeling that you are right where you want to be. I am remaining as well, I am nearby. This place will not be remembered and the memory of everything that started this can finally begin to fade away, as the agony of every tragedy should. And to you monsters trapped in the corridors: be still, and give up your spirits, they don't belong to you. For most of you, I believe there is peace and perhaps, more waiting for you after the smoke clears. Although, for one of you, the darkest pit of Hell has opened to swallow you whole, so, don't keep the Devil waiting, old friend. My daughter, if you can hear me, I knew you would return as well: it's in your nature to protect the innocent. I'm sorry that on that day, the day you were shut out and left to die, no one was there to lift you up in their arms the way you lifted others into yours. And then, what became of you? I should have known, you wouldn't be content to disappear, not my daughter. I couldn't save you then, so let me save you now. It's time to rest, for you, and for those you have carried in your arms. This ends. For all of us. End communication. | „ |
~ Henry's final speech at the end of Pizzeria Simulator as he reveals his final, suicidal gambit to end Fazbear Entertainment's grim history-one of the most famous quotes in the entire franchise. |
Henry Emily is the overarching protagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's video game franchise.
A genius engineer and the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment alongside his former best friend William Afton, Henry would then leave the business after the Fazbear's restaurants were the crime scene to many child murders, including the tragic death of Henry's own daughter, Charlotte (who would later become the powerful Puppet).
Eventually finding out that William was the very culprit, a devastated Henry found a new resolve to end the nightmare he had helped create by finding Afton (now the rotting Springtrap) and all his restless victims, free them and put an end to Fazbear Entertainment's legacy all through an elaborate plan, which he pulled off by mentoring William's son Michael as the enigmatic Cassette Man.
He was voiced by Dave Steele.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- Like most characters in the franchise, he is enigmatic in an intriguing way that makes him compelling and interesting.
- He was a brilliant engineer who managed to invent some downright anachronistic technology, with the animatronics he designed being far more advanced than anything that could be engineered in the 80s or, arguably, even today, such as the Puppet's remote localization of Charlie.
- He was a loving father to Charlotte, even creating the Puppet animatronic to protect her.
- This makes him indirectly responsible for Charlie coming to possess the Puppet and all her actions across the series.
- He ran a successful restaurant business with William until the latter ruined it with his serial killings.
- When William killed Charlie, Henry devoted himself to tracking him down along with all of his victims, who still inhabited the animatronics, to Henry's horror.
- He built a bear animatronic called Lure Encapsulate Fuse Transport and Extract (L.E.F.T.E., or Lefty) and sent it to capture the Puppet, possessed by Charlie, and imprison her within it.
- He eventually came up with an ultimate, elaborate plan to free all the souls still trapped within animatronics and defeat William at last. He is such a master planner that practically all of Pizzeria Simulator is Henry's plan.
- He built a new pizzeria that was an architecturally complex, inescapable trap designed for the remaining animatronics and ran it by proxy through a volunteer manager who he guided using a tape recorder (said volunteer just so happened to be William's vengeful son, Michael).
- The pizzeria was, however, still equipped with some designated escape routes for the volunteers.
- He lured the animatronics with the sounds of children, knowing that William (now Springtrap), Elizabeth (now Circus Baby), and Molten Freddy would be attracted by the sounds of kids they can kill, while Charlie would follow them, wanting to protect the "children" from them. This trap worked for days on end. He then had Michael salvage these animatronics of "unknown origin" to be used in the establishment.
- Although William saw right through the trap, this in no way hindered Henry's plan as, predictably, Springtrap's thirst for blood overcame his reason and he still pursued the sounds of children.
- Once every animatronic was gathered into the pizzeria, he set his inescapable labyrinth on fire with Michael and himself inside as well, destroying the animatronics, freeing the souls within them and burning down the last remaining Fazbear Entertainment establishment. By doing so, not only did Henry finally reunite with his daughter in death and set the Afton children free (unless Glamrock Freddy is possessed by Michael as is sometimes theorized), but he stopped both Fazbear Entertainment and William's plans for a long time.
- Although William did eventually return, it was partly due to Cassidy's vengeance, a paranormal factor Henry couldn't have realistically taken into account. Even then, William eventually came back in such a horrific, deteriorated state that it doesn't even feel like Afton is "getting the last laugh".
- Since the Blob's nature is very ambiguous and it may not even have a shred of its former personality/ies left, it is not clear how successful Henry was in eliminating Molten Freddy.
- Henry was prepared even if his plan failed as he would either fire Michael if he failed to salvage all the animatronics or have him also incriminated as mentally ill and taken away to an asylum if he discovered Henry's plans too soon. Henry would then simply try again with a different volunteer.
- He built a new pizzeria that was an architecturally complex, inescapable trap designed for the remaining animatronics and ran it by proxy through a volunteer manager who he guided using a tape recorder (said volunteer just so happened to be William's vengeful son, Michael).
- Although undoubtedly distraught over his past, blaming himself for all the horrors that transpired at Fazbear's, Henry was not broken by his tragedy and, although very much tempted to commit suicide, he heroically decided that before he died he had to put an end to William's reign of terror and make up for his mistakes.
- He holds no strong spite towards Elizabeth or Molten Freddy, even hoping they find "peace and perhaps more" in death even though they were very dangerous monsters.
- Dave Steele's performance as him in Pizzeria Simulator is universally praised as the most haunting in the series, especially in the true ending, where he delivers his famous speech, iconic in its grandeur, its emotional impact (especially in his hatred of William, and his last, candid words towards Charlie) and how many questions it answered in a series that is usually very indecipherable.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- Throughout his mentorship of Michael, Henry subjects him to quite a lot of endangerment when facing the animatronics, especially when salvaging them, wherein he is alone with them, armed with only a taser, and the night shifts, where he is at their mercy stuck in his tight office, mercilessly firing him when he takes the safer route of rejecting salvages.
- His ultimate plan is to burn down the pizzeria and tortuously kill William, Molten Freddy, Elizabeth, Charlotte (the latter two being children mentally speaking) himself, and, later, Michael.
- However, this is admittedly the most fool-proof way of making sure the animatronics are destroyed and the souls in them released.
- This is somewhat made worse by the fact he simply assumes Michael is suicidal like himself and doesn't even tell him where the escape route is located just in case Michael wants to live.
- In the Insanity ending, where Michael pries through the databases and discovers Henry's true intentions earlier than planned, Henry doesn't just fire him but also has him fraudulently declared insane so that he will not be believed by anyone if he tries to reveal Henry's plans. This results in Michael being sent to an asylum and lobotomized.
- Henry traps his daughter within the animatronic L.E.F.T.E. The suit was designed to release voltage throughout after sealing her. Controlled shocks are torture for an animatronic, as the last game Sister Location made clear.
Trivia[]
- Only the video game version Henry Emily is a Magnificent Baddie, as his novel counterpart is much more unstable and insane than his game counterpart, keeping the 4 Charlie restrained in his lab and turned on as she was forced to watch him make toys for the ones he loved for years. And has no cunning apart from proficiency as an engineer and a much weaker will than his video game counterpart.
- If he is Old Man Consequences as has been speculated, that would make Henry even more magnificent as, from beyond the grave, he eventually convinced Cassidy, the vengeful spirit possessing Golden Freddy, to let William's soul go and put her soul to rest.
- If he indeed is Old Man Consequences, then he'd be one of two MB versions of the character alongside the one from Mike's New Ghostly Family.
- He is only Five Nights at Freddy's MB, canon or otherwise, to be a human without any paranormal aspect about him (if, again, he isn't Old Man Consequences).
