Humpty Alexander Dumpty is the main antagonist of DreamWorks' 23rd full-length animated feature film Puss in Boots, a spin-off of the Shrek franchise.
He was the former friend of Puss in Boots who later sought revenge on him after the latter abandoned him to be arrested by guards for tricking him into helping him rob the San Ricardo bank and incriminating him in the aftermath through, developing a grudge over him over the years.
He was voiced by Zach Galifianakis, who also voiced The Joker in The LEGO Batman Movie.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He tricked Puss into helping him rob the San Ricardo bank by telling him that he owed a gang money and then had him get him over a wall without him knowing which wall it is, before dropping the money bags into the cart in an attempt to escape San Ricardo with said money, though Puss would wind up unintentionally foiling this by causing the cart to fall and leaving Humpty on his back unable to get up and Puss abandoning him.
- He spent a majority of the movie tricking and manipulating Puss in Boots into helping him and Kitty Softpaws get green beans from Jack and Jill and then grow them into a giant beanstalk that they would get on to the very top in order to get the Golden Goose under the guise of doing this to help clear Puss' name, only to then take the goose back to San Ricardo himself with Kitty Softpaws and Jack and Jill after Puss had been knocked out just to clear his own name. After Puss woke up and returned, Humpty revealed that he's played him for a fool the whole time, Jack and Jill were working for him as well, and he was always watching him from afar without him noticing, before calling in the guards to arrest him to finish off the trap.
- He tricked everyone in San Ricardo to get the golden eggs from the Golden Goose, knowing that this could get the town destroyed as a result from the wrath of the goose's mother, the Great Terror.
- While he did betray Puss and allow him to be arrested by the guards, he seemed to hold some guilt about it as after setting up golden eggs for San Ricardo to be destroyed by the Great Terror, he looks at a picture he and Puss drew when they were young with sadness, indicating that he still valued their friendship to some extent even then and was genuinely hurt when he was abandoned by Puss as he was the only friend he had back then.
- He redeemed himself after being convinced by Puss to help him by proving to him that there is still a good egg in him by assisting Puss in getting the Great Terror out of San Ricardo with her Golden Goose and then sacrificing himself so that Puss can save the goose to give it back to its mother so that the mother would not wind up destroying San Ricardo, with the egg he had underneath his shell revealing itself to be a golden one, confirming quite both literally and metaphorically that Humpty did indeed have a good egg inside him as said by Puss himself.
- He has a tragic past of being deemed an outcast when he was young as he didn't have much friends and was picked on by other people except Puss, even mentioning several times how he doesn't belong in San Ricardo.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- When they were young, he and Puss would participate in thievery of sorts, getting them in trouble multiple times, and while Puss would eventually abandon this habit, Humpty still continued with it for a while.
- He tricked Puss into helping him rob the San Ricardo bank and had Puss take all the blame, which ruined Puss' life and reputation.
- He betrayed Puss upon getting the golden goose by taking all the credit for the work they did and having the guards arrest and imprison him once more, before using the golden goose to lure the Great Terror into San Ricardo in order to destroy the town, which would've gotten its townsfolk killed.
