Janet Colgate is the main antagonist of the 1988 comedy film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The film is about two con artists named Lawrence Jamieson and Freddy Benson, who make a bet where the first of the two to get money out of Janet wins. She is played by Glenne Headly.
What Makes Her Magnificent?[]
- Janet is the true identity of the infamous con artist known as "the Jackal," though she kept her true identity secret the whole time and never got caught once before the movie's start.
- Posing as a rich but naïve tourist from the USA who can be "easily" conned, and spending nearly the whole movie keeping up this masquerade.
- Realizing very soon that Lawrence and Freddy are trying to con her, and playing off both of them into doing what she wants.
- Abandoning Freddy overnight, who just thought that he won the bet, while taking a shower and taking Freddy's money with her.
- Tricking Lawrence into thinking that Freddy stole her money, so he'll give her $50,000 to compensate for it and have Freddy arrested by the navy.
- Giving Lawrence a supposed bag of money before leaving by airplane, when the bag actually Freddy's clothes. Freddy soon explained that he didn't actually steal the money but was stolen from himself. The two looked in the bag again, and found a note reading:
"Hello boys. It was fun. I'll miss you. Love, Janet the Jackal. P.S. I’m keeping the money. Is that wrong?" - The film ends with a scene where the boys are relaxing at Lawrence's villa, only for Janet disguised as a real estate agent to show up. She tells them that this con was the most fun she's had, and asks them to join her in her next scheme. They accept.
