“ | I don't know what clouds your judgement worse, your guilt or your antiquated sense of morality. Bruce, I forgive you for not saving me. But why, why on God's earth (kicks a door down to reveal the Joker tied to a chair) is he still alive?! | „ |
~ Jason to Batman, questioning why the latter never killed the Joker. |
Jason Todd is the titular secondary antagonist of the 2010 animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood and the main protagonist of its 2020 interactive sequel Batman: Death in the Family.
He is the former Robin who was murdered by the Joker, becoming a vigilante after being resurrected by Ra's al Ghul. He takes on his murderer's former identity, the Red Hood, and starts "controlling crime" in Gotham City.
He was voiced by Jensen Ackles.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He's pretty tragic. He was orphaned after his criminal father got killed by Two-Face and his junkie mother died of an overdose, Batman was unable to prevent Joker from brutally murdering him, and his resurrection in the Lazarus Pit made him mentally unstable.
- He has a few witty lines here and there (e.g. "yeah like yelling at the guy who's holding the AK-47").
- He co-opts the head of every crime syndicate in Gotham by beheading their lieutenants in only two hours.
- Despite being a hardened vigilante, there are still some lines he won't cross. He threatens the drug peddlers working for him with death if they deal their products to children, and believes that Gotham's lesser criminals have a shot at redemption despite his own personal hatred for Joker.
- He has a total of four action scenes with Batman and never once gets outright beaten.
- Everything he does to affect Black Mask (punching holes in Gotham's illegal trade lines and then trying to kill him with a bazooka) was purposely meant to force him to break Joker out of prison since he was also known as the Red Hood once. The plan succeeds.
- He still loves Bruce as a father despite being unable to save him, as he's only mad at him for being unwilling to kill the Joker despite everything he's done.
- He manages to get at least some payback on Joker by beating him up a little bit with a crowbar.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He snipes three of his own henchmen to death for snitching on him.
- He killed one member of the Fearsome Hand of Four. While it was in self-defense, he killed him in a very brutal manner.
- He does nothing to stop Joker from burning Black Mask and his gang (as well as Red Hood's) alive.
- He gives Batman a gun just to prove that his moral code is inferior to his own, saying he'll kill Joker himself unless he shoots Jason. He then tries to shoot Batman in the back as he walks away.
