Adam Carr formerly known as Jeremy Melton is the main antagonist of the 2001 horror film Valentine loosely based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Tom Savage.

He is a mentally unstable serial killer who was heavily bullied as a child, culminating in him being humiliated, beaten and falsely accused of rape and incarcerated at only thirteen years old, sending him down a dark path of vengeance and bitterness towards those who had wronged him as a child. After several years he entered back into the lives of his former classmates and finally decided to enact his revenge plan.

He was portrayed by David Boreanaz normally however in costume he was portrayed by Marshall Virtue. Joel Palmer also played the young Jeremy Melton.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • Waiting for nearly a decade to orchestrate his carefully planned revenge plot and taking the time to make sure he could keep his identity protected by changing his name, having plastic surgery and committing his killings in a mask, duster coat and gloves to ensure no dead skin cells or hair follicles could be found to expose him.
  • Committing all of his killings as cleanly as possible and in very pragmatic and personalized ways to all of his targets.
  • Although he put Kate and her friends through a lot, this is justified by what they put him through: rejecting him when they were young simply cause he was nerdy, falsely accusing him of rape, indirectly getting fake blood on him and making him a laughing stock, and getting him falsely sent to a mental institution. This also made him tragic.
  • Using his alcoholism to his advantage to leer away suspicion from himself.
  • Going after Gary, the one threat towards he and Kate's relationship as well someone who was generally unpleasant and repulsive.
  • Using Dorothy as his scapegoat, making his way back into Kate's life seemingly permanently and getting away Scott-free with everything he did.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • Potentially traumatizing Kate by killing all of her close friends and making her believe that one of them was responsible.
  • Committing his killings in very brutal ways.
  • Stalking all of his targets and even his own girlfriend.
  • Pinning the blame for all of his crimes on Dorothy.
