Ji (姬) is one of the secondary antagonist of Red Candle Games' 2024 action Metrodvania Nine Sols.
An ageless immortal, who lived for ages and wanting to end such curse after seeing the depart of his allies, Ji wanted to end himself by the hands of Yi, our main protagonist. He carries the Sol Seal of Insight.
He was voiced by Neven Chang.
What makes him magnificent?[]
- Ji's "curse" of immortality is useful and charismatic for both the villainous and heroic side. He is vital for Eigong's experimentations and Yi's method of defeating Mutated Solarians.
- Due to his astrology, he was worshipped by many, including a cult.
- As his allies departed him, he deemed his immortality as a curse, yet having no courage to end his own. This does not make him a coward due to still finding alternative attempts of doing such.
- He joined the Tiandao Council due to his loneliness rather than malicious.
- He has no desire to be the best, remained pragmatic throughout. He also carved history on stones as a hobby as an immortal.
- He disguised as a mysterious astrologer who saw Yi's fortune, and as he saw his connections with Lear, he simply laughed and invited him to the Grotto.
- When Yi arrived at his throne room, our hero showed hesitation to kill the Ancient Solarian due to his pragmatic nature. Ji, taking advantage of his true intentions, manipulated Yi into killing him by telling that he will defeat Yi as the Hexagram told him so.
- He remained skilled in combat, due to him was a Jie official and mastered in the art of Tao.
- After being defeated, he revealed to Yi that he lied about the Hexagram fortune, where Yi was the one actually defeated him. He managed to submit his goal of ending his "curse", finally rested in peace as he rapidly ages.
What makes him a baddie?[]
- He deemed many other relics as meaningless despite how much message they contains.
- He warned Jiequan about the fall of the Jie Kingdom, and if Jiequan listened, his tyrannical rule and practice would remains.
- He has no problems of killing Yi, even if the former was forced to kill him after falling for his manipulation.
