You know what? For once, Batman, you're right. I'm not your greatest enemy. Your greatest enemy is you!
~ The Joker's most famous quote.

The Joker is the main antagonist of the 2017 computer-animated film The LEGO Batman Movie.

He is Batman's archenemy and the Clown Prince of Crime, who always seems to be one step ahead of his nemesis, who at the end of the day simply wants his approval to admit this is in fact the nature of their relationship.

He was voiced by Zach Galifianakis, who also voiced Humpty Dumpty in Puss in Boots.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • Having planned ahead, he destroys the Bat-Signal so that Batman can not foil his plans
  • When he throws a pilot out of the plane, he gives him a parachute to ensure he will be all right.
  • While his bomb is unnecessarily complicated, at least he admits it.
  • When Batman rejects him, he is heartbroken. And while he's understandably bitter of Superman's appreciation for Zod, it's not given any real elaboration and he seems to be happy for both of them.
  • He is very cunning, to the point of feigning surrender because he knows Batman will be extremely lonely and always want to remain locked in battle with him.
  • He successfully manipulates Batman into sending him to the Phantom Zone, and while he can't manipulate Barbara, he never actually tried.
  • He appeals to the villains of the Phantom Zone by being vulnerable and relaying his insecurities of feeling unappreciated, which they all seem to relate to, especially the Wicked Witch of the West.
  • He looks utterly awesome and epic when his face briefly merges with the portal from the Phantom Zone and he introduces the Phantom Zone's inmates.
  • He unleashes an unprecedented legion of villains from all over cinema, such as Lord Sauron from The Lord of the Rings, the shark from Jaws, the Daleks from Doctor Who, and the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz, just to name a few. He even hi-fives the dinosaur from Jurassic Park.
  • When Sauron says he will make the rivers flow with Batman's gore, the Joker is bothered by his notion.
  • When Sauron is taken out, the Joker openly expresses his devastation.
  • When successfully taking out Batman and giving him a taste of his own medicine by sending him to the Phantom Zone, he makes the iconic statement that his greatest enemy is himself. Phillis is not fully against the idea of Batman having a place there, and for good reason as he's been a huge jerk for most of the film, while the Joker on the other hand usually shows care to his henchmen, especially his girlfriend Harley.
  • His plan would have been a complete success if Batman hadn't agreed to stop being so obnoxious, unlikeable, and immature by agreeing to let Robin and Batgirl into his life and to admit that he "hates" the Joker, which he's longed to hear for several decades to tell.
  • While he insults his own friends and calls them pathetic, he later apologizes and they make amends.
  • While childish in his own right, it's completely normal for LEGO fare and it doesn't dilute his charm in the slightest.
  • While insecure, it's never to the point that he's unlikeable.
  • While petty, it is to a degree acceptable for a villain of his caliber that instead adds to his charm, and furthermore, Batman is the one acting like the Joker means nothing to him and nobody deserves to feel like they have to be part of a one-sided relationship. And while it's made him a little callous towards the innocent people he would have harmed, it's not hard to see why after more than seven decades of dealing with Batman and their give-and-take relationship. It is taken with the proper gravity, that Gotham City is going to be fine even with the Joker being in it.
  • Unlike basically every other version of the Joker, he treats Harley Quinn with great kindness and respect like an actual girlfriend she is to him.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • He tries to blow up Gotham City twice.
  • He frees every single villain from the Phantom Zone, including extremely dangerous people such as Lord Sauron and Lord Voldemort.
  • He is mentioned to have pulled two stunts with the "two boats" and the "parade with Prince music," Although neither incident is given any elaboration in the movie.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only version of the Joker so far to be a Magnificent Baddie.
