~ Justin Hammer before he incapacities Maria Hill with one of the Iron Man suits. |
Justin Hammer is a one-shot antagonist in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe animated series, What If...?, appearing as the main antagonist in the episode What If... Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?. He is the CEO of Hammer Industries who after getting arrested for breaking Ivan Vanko out of prison, decides to get revenge on Tony Stark by preforming a heist at the Avengers Tower to steal a serum of Hulk blood so he could become a superhero.
Just like his Sacred Timeline counterpart, he was portrayed by Sam Rockwell, who also played Mr. Wolf from The Bad Guys.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- This version still retains the hilarious charm the sacred timeline counterpart had while also being far more dignified and intelligent.
- Has numerous hilarious lines and moments like telling the story of how he wanted a BB gun for Christmas when he is clearly mimicking A Chirstmas Story, saying he is going to take a dump on Tony’s throne, saying that Maria Hill is roasting his chestnuts, and calling Happy "Hulk Hogan".
- Sneaks into the Avengers Tower by covering himself with flowers and Manages to hold it hostage.
- Manages to take control of Jarvis when he is offline allowing him to use the various Iron Man Armour Tony uses.
- Distracts Maria Hill long enough to Incapacitate her by blowing up an Iron suit behind her.
- Manages to have his men kidnap Darcy Lewis so he could hold her hostage.
- Gets into the Hulkbuster armor so he could properly fight Happy, who has transformed into The Frank.
- He also manages to put up a pretty good fight, nearly winning too.
- While his defeat is pretty humiliating with him whimpering while being plummeted by the Freak, him saying "nothing" when Tony asks about the Hulkbuster armour with it then falling off, and him falling out of a window screaming, It isn’t preventing for these following reasons:
- His defeat is still far more dignified when compared to his sacred timeline who gets treated pretty much as a joke the moment he gets introduced to Ivan and gets pinned down by Black Widow.
- Any cowardness he shows is justified since both situations are under the belief he is going to die. It also helps that he is brave enough to confront the Freak while the mercenaries he hires refuse to out of fear.
- He takes his defeat in a more neutral tone with him simply saying "bah humbug" rather than making a big deal out of his defeat.
- This is also a Die-Hard parody that is meant to be more lighthearted compared to other What If episodes so silly moments like these are to be expected.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- Retains the same crimes as his scared timeline counterpart.
- Breaks into the Avengers Tower and holds the partygoers hostage.
- Hacked into the tower so he could take control of Tony’s suits.
- Tries to steal the hulk blood so he could become a superhero.
- Knocks down Maria Hill with an explosion.
- Tries to have Happy killed when he gets ahold of the serum so he could dissect his corpse.
- Holds Maria Hill and Darcy Lewis hostage to lure Happy into a trap to kill him.
- Tries to kill Darcy and Hill when they try to bring Jarvis back online.
Trivia[]
- He is a parody of Hans Gruber, another Magnificent Baddie.
