King Kong, also simply known as Kong and dubbed Titanus Kong, is one of the 2 main kaiju protagonists of the MonsterVerse franchise. He, as an adolescent, first appeared as the titular kaiju protagonist of the 2017 epic monster action-adventure film Kong: Skull Island, and a cameo character in the 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters. He reappears in the 2021 film Godzilla vs. Kong as the film’s main protagonist in which he, as an adult, battles both Godzilla and Mechagodzilla.
In Kong: Skull Island, he was portrayed by Terry Notary and Toby Kebbell in motion-capture. In Godzilla vs. Kong, he was portrayed by Eric Petey in motion capture.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- Is a highly intelligent monster and combatant.
- Though pure self-teaching, has survived on Skull Island since birth.
- Noticed when a Mire Squid was about to attack him and killed him by going for the head.
- Used a boat propeller attached to a chain to gain the upper hand in his battle against the Skull Devil and knocked her unconscious.
- Saved Mason from drowning and managed to save her and kill the Skull Devil by shoving his hand down the Devil's throat and tear out her innards, killing her once and for all and also saving Mason.
- Ignored Ghidorah's alpha call.
- Noticed he was in a fake habitat and a MONARCH container and protested against it.
- Learned sign language and how to say the word "Home".
- Held his own against Godzilla on the latter's own turf, the ocean, even going for his weak spots like headbutting him to stun him.
- Noticed when Godzilla was about to fire his atomic breath and dodged it.
- Saved Jia from the destruction of the Native population and protected her many times.
- Grabbed Maia Simmons' vehicle after she shot at him and checked that Jia and the others weren't in it before destroying it and her for her betrayal.
- Out maneuvered Godzilla in the city and managed to knock him down.
- Absorbed Godzilla's atomic breath with his axe and struck him with it, taking him down temporarily.
- Distracted Godzilla in the battle and used it to strike.
- Is not a coward and refused to bow to Godzilla even after being beaten, roaring back in response.
- Saved Godzilla and destroyed MechaGodzilla, with Godzilla and the humans help.
What makes him a Baddie?[]
- He is incredibly wrathful, brutal and lethal, both to fellow monsters and even humans.
- He brutally kills many of the Skullcrawlers and wiped out an entire convoy of Vietnam soldiers in helicopters when they arrived on Skull Island for dropping bombs.
- He rips off and eats the arm of a giant octopus while it was still alive, causing it to suffer.
- He intimidates a pack of Wart Dogs into fleeing by grabbing one of their members and tearing them in half above him, showering him in its blood as he roared.
- Upon being ambushed by a Drownviper, he fought back against it and later killed it.
- While some moments on lethality on titans can be arguably minor compared to others, as they were either in self-defense, hunting for food, or both, Kong's initimidation display on the Wart Dogs can be a little extreme past both of these reasons.
- His kill on the Skar King, however, doesn't count to this, as he absolutely deserved it after everything he had done.
- He has had a strong rivalry with Godzilla and while the latter mostly provoked him first, he fought back willingly. This is moreso the case when Godzilla attacked him in Egypt, as while Kong tried to communicate for him to follow along and join him in the battle against the Skar King in Hollow Earth, Godzilla dealt the first blows, which made Kong, who was visibly hesitant to fight back before, retaliate. However, after their cooperation in Mechagodzilla's defeat and Mothra's intervention later on uniting them both, this has become a more minor prevention.
