Problems are just opportunities that haven't presented themselves.
~ Wilson Fisk, "Condemned"
You can build a prison of stone and steel, but you merely present the prisoner with a challenge. Any truly determined man will find a way out. But love, love is the perfect prison. Inescapable.
~ Wilson Fisk, "Please"

Wilson Fisk (also known as Kingpin) is a major antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, serving as the main antagonist of the Netflix series Daredevil, the Disney+ series' Hawkeye, Echo, and Daredevil: Born Again.

He is an extravagant, powerful, and rich megalomaniacal businessman interested in the future of Hell's Kitchen. This leads to a conflict with Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, who is his own arch-nemesis.

He is portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

In General[]

  • He's tragic due to his abusive father, who he was forced to kill to protect his mother when he was just a kid.
  • He deeply cares for his mother, Wesley, and Vanessa.
  • He's pretty polite for the most part. He even lets an old lady keep her family's painting after hearing that she was a Holocaust survivor, only for Dex to kill her and take the painting later on anyway.

Daredevil[]

  • In season 1, he was an anti-villain who wanted to make New York City a better place.
  • He's not at all shy to get his own hands dirty in a fight with Daredevil.
  • He takes out the entire Russian Mafia by brutally killing Anatoly, using blind delivery men to unwillingly suicide bomb their hideouts, and having the survivors (Vladimir included) executed by corrupt cops.
  • When Ben Urich was getting close to exposing him, he made a speech to Hell's Kitchen about he is trying to clean up the city, foiling their goals.
  • He kills the smug Leland for poisoning his girlfriend Vanessa.
  • Torpedoes the Nelson-Murdock firm's efforts to make Frank plead not guilty, by arranging one of the cops under his payroll to offer Frank a chance to know who killed his family.
  • While in prison, he gets Frank Castle to kill an inmate named Dutton so he can take control and then orders him released in the hopes that he'll continue killing other crime lords from the outside. Then, while Dutton dies on his hospital bed, Fisk gloats while staying by his side so he doesn't die alone.
  • He finds out Daredevil's secret identity just by recognizing the punch from Matt's visit.
  • Tricked Foggy's family into committing fraud, so that Fisk and his men could dangle their freedom to puppeteer Foggy whenever he went against them.
  • He gets the FBI to give him house arrest at a penthouse both in exchange for ratting out the Albanian Syndicate and for his protection after he bribes a fellow inmate into shanking him.
  • Fisk is an astound reader of people, not only recognizing Matt Murdock as Daredevil, but also able to play unto Dex's need for validation to manipulate him.
  • He manipulated Nadeem's sister-in-law's health insurance, so that he would jump at the opportunity to take Fisk's guard duty as promotion.
  • Fisk used his men outside the prison to get the details of any potential corruptible FBI agents, thus converting his guard retinue into his own personal army.
  • For revenge against Matt and Foggy for separating Vanessa from him, he anticipated them visiting his cell where he bribed the nurse and some guards to get him into an unfortunate "accident". This nearly works until Matt came in contact with the Vic, one of the Albanians who has a grudge against Fisk.
    • Also in anticipation that Matt will escape, he had Matt's taxi driver replaced with one of his men, nearly getting him killed via drowning.
  • He let Daredevil take the fall for the Bulletin massacre by using Dex as well as tried to frame Matt by arranging a meeting by blackmailing Melvin Potter. Either he gets framed as Daredevil, or he loses one of his most precious allies.
  • Despite him getting enraged when Karen revealed she killed Wesley and taunted him, his breakdown was partly justified due to Fisk still caring for Wesley, and he recovered from it as he promised Matt he won't go after Karen.
  • While him converting Nadeem went off flawlessly, Nadeem only turned in the end back to good due to Dex's screwup and Sister Maggie's intervention, something he could hardly plan for.
  • Despite covering all his bases and planning all his moves, he's only brought down due to Vanessa showing an interest in his criminal deeds and being inexperienced in the criminal world, which he tried to avoid as long as possible.
  • After Daredevil finally defeats him for good, he shakes his hand and agrees to stay in prison so Vanessa (who ordered Ray Nadeem's murder) can stay free.

Hawkeye/Echo[]

  • Despite being decisively defeated by Daredevil and the FBI agents' testimony incriminating him, Fisk took advantage of Thanos's snap and begun to rebuild his empire again, taking control of the Tracksuit Mafia.
  • Noting that Ronin is targeting criminals and would come after him sooner or later, Fisk redirected him towards William Lopez and got him killed, leaving Fisk free.
  • He made Eleanor kill Armand to avoid police suspicion and risk a third incarceration.
  • Due to sharing similar painful experiences, he genuinely cares about Maya Lopez like she's his daughter although his love is kind of toxic.
  • He offers Maya to become his successor or let her use the hammer that he used to kill his father to kill him to free her from the pain of losing her father because of him.
  • After being defeated by Echo and her failed attempt to cure his pain, he decides to leave Echo and her tribes alone, accepting the fact that he will never get Maya back.
  • Despite the city shunning him twice due to his crimes being exposed in Seasons 1 and 3 of Daredevil, Fisk regained most of his popularity as he decided to run for Mayor.

Daredevil: Born Again[]

  • He shows his honorable side when informing him he didn't plan the attack on Josie's Bar which led to Foggy's death, and sincerely expressed his condolences.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • He threatens those under his payroll and/or their loved ones to invoke fear in them and has scum who's no longer useful to him disposed of. He even ordered a hit-on-run on one of Tammy Hattley's kids.
  • Killed anyone who tried to leave his organization. For example, he tried to kill Eleanor Bishop, Kate's mother.
  • Brutally killed Anatoly for interrupting his date with Vanessa,
  • Had a sniper kill Blake, one of the cops on his payroll, just for a false flag against Daredevil.
  • He orders Elena Cardenas, an innocent old lady, killed by a junkie so that Nobu could have her apartment.
  • He murders Ben Urich for involving his mother Marlene.
  • He ordered Dex to kill Jasper Evans, all so that he couldn't talk against him, thus leading Dex killing 3 Bulletin reporters to frame Daredevil.
  • He remorselessly orders Julie murdered to manipulate Dex into becoming a homicidal Daredevil copycat.
  • He "shoots the messenger" by beating one of his dirty FBI agents to death at one point.
  • Tried to make Echo become a criminal like him, and when she refused he tried to kill all of her family along with other Choctaw tribe members out of spite, taunting her that they would die like her father.
