| ~ Kiritsugu Emiya's goals. |
Kiritsugu Emiya is the main protagonist of Fate Zero, and the overarching protagonist of Fate/Stay Night.
He is freelance assassin who is the master of Saber in the 4th Holy Grail war who seeks to win the Grail to save the world. After failing, he adopts Shirou and trains him and managed to pass down his ideal of being a hero to him.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- Is a sympathetic figure due to his past where his father’s experiments wiped out everyone in his home including his friend Shirley. He was adopted by Natalie so became an adoptive mom but he was forced to sacrifice her to save others. These experiences have led him to seek to save lives and want the Holy Grail to save the world.
- While he kills people he is pragmatic as he chooses to kill on the lower end, sacrificing the few to save the many making him a well-intentioned extremist.
- He is a skilled assassin while being a Magnus his methods are unconventional as he uses magic-like tools in combination with modern tools.
- He is able to use mage craft to speed himself up past superhuman levels and even slow his heartbeat down which he used to avoid detection from Kayneth.
- He is able to take out several mages over the years by studying them and exploiting there weakness like there reliance on magic with his more underhanded methods.
- He managed to defeat Kayneth by first instead of entering his hotel defenses he opted to blow up the building instead. Then he got past his barrier by using his origin bullets to destroy his magic circuits.
- He figured out Ryuunosuuke was Caster’s master based of his body heat being higher then normal due to him giving up men which allowed him to assassinate him.
- He figure’s out Kayneth’s wife is supplying Lancer's (Zero version) mana and goes after her and uses her as leverage to make Kayneth drop out of the war.
- Tried to fake an alliance with Tokiomi Tohsaka so that he could kill Archer when his guard is down, only to be foiled by Kirei betraying his master and becoming Gilgamesh's Master instead.
- He managed to hold his on against Kirei Kotomine who was an elite executioner from the church and a cunning opponent.
- When he realizes the Grail will bring ruin to the world if his wish is fulfilled he opts to destroy the Grail so it can cause no more harm.
- Despite the loss of life because of him destroying the Grail he manages to save a boy named Shirou who later adopts as his son.
- He taught Shirou about the ideals of being a magi, so that Shirou won't repeat the same mistakes he made during his life.
- Despite his suffering, losing his wife and daughter and dying because of the curse of the Grail Kiritsugu died happy knowing that Shirou would finish what he started by fulfilling his dream of becoming a Hero of Justice.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He is willing to kill the few to save the many if they are in their way or pose a threat to humanity. This can include making choices to sacrifice innocents if it is for the greater good.
- Killed his own father, while he was responsible for for the outbreak in his home, he did not currently pose a threat to anyone at that moment.
- He treated Saber like a tool to be used and did not acknowledge her existence except to give orders.
- He had Maiya kill Kayneth and Sola-Ui despite them dropping out of war, just to remove competition against the Holy Grail.
