Gotten a second wind, have you? Good! This will make your defeat all the more satisfying.
~ Kyodai after Bruce recovers from his first knockout.

Kyodai Ken, also known as The Ninja, is a villain from the DC Animated Universe cartoon, Batman: The Animated Series. He was a pupil of karate master Sensi Yoru and was students with Bruce Wayne. He had a rivalry with Bruce Wayne and after getting caught trying to steal Yoru's katana, decides to get revenge on Wayne.

He was voiced by Robert Ito.

What makes him Magnificent?[]

  • Although he is arrogant, he is justified since he clearly is very good at fighting and doesn't let his ego make dumb mistakes.
    • It also doesn't make him unlikable and instead comes across as an old school proud warrior type of villain.
  • Manages to successfully rob seven Wayne Enterprises locations within two weeks with the intent to put the money into his account.
    • We also see how he does rob the locations. He uses some sort of sleeping gas to knock out the person in the vault room, opens the vault door with a tech device, escapes to the rooftops when a guard hears him, pinning his gun to the wall, and slicing his flashlight in half with his sword.
  • When Batman tries to stop him, he offers to let him go since he has no quarrel with him showing that despite his arrogance, he is honorable.
  • He almost wins during his first encounter with Batman, only failing because Robin intervened. Even then, he escapes.
  • It's implied that even Batman is scared of the fact that Kyodai could beat him.
  • Kidnaps Bruce Wayne and Summer Gleeson by disguising himself as their chauffeur and knocking them out with sleeping gas.
  • Attempts to get rid of Robin by slicing open a water tower which while he failed, is still pretty cool to see.
  • Almost beats Bruce since he had to hold back thanks to Summer Gleeson's presence. Even if Bruce was able to use his full strength to beat him, he still escapes through a window though this is slightly cowardly due to his pride as a warrior.
  • Deduces that Batman and Bruce Wayne are the same person thanks to recognizing their fighting style.
  • Kidnaps Kairi in order to blackmail Sensi Yoru about the location to the "Kiba no Hoko", an ancient fighting technique that is said to kill a person in a single touch.
    • He also compliments her fighting skills, saying that it's "good but not good enough" further showcasing his honorable side.
  • When meeting Batman in order to trade Kairi for the map locating the "Kiba no Hoko", he throws Kairi off the rooftops in order to distract Batman, then steals the map when he is trying to rescue her.
  • When he reaches the cave where the move is located, he finds that the paper detailing the move has been broken up due to many years of being stored in a box only to still find a piece he can use to help him learn the "Kiba no Hoko".
  • Successfully kidnaps Alfred in order to goal Bruce into fighting him at a volcano.
  • Although Batman uses a piece from Kyodai's training dummy to survive the "Kiba no Hoko", he still keeps on fighting Batman showing his determination to beat his rival.
  • He shows resect to Bruce by saying he would make a good ninja.
  • When he is about to die from getting engulfed by lava, he refuses Bruce's attempt to save him and gives him a final bow of respect towards him before dying, accepting his death in dignity.
  • Although he starts off as a slight smug snake and dirty coward with a petty grudge towards Bruce in his first appearance, he ends up subverting them in his second appearance when he accepts his defeat in stride and shows respect towards Batman.

What makes him a Baddie?[]

  • He tried to steal Sensi Yoru's kantana and plans revenge on Bruce for catching him.
  • Stole from several Wayne Enterprise locations.
  • Tried to kill Batman and Robin.
  • Kidnaped Bruce, Summer Gleeson, Kairi, and Alfred.
  • Blackmailed Yoru for the "Kiba no Hoko".
  • Threw Kairi off a roof to distract Batman.
