This is the West, boss. New Mexico's not a retreat jurisdiction. Man steps to you bent on doing you bodily harm, you got every right to plant your feet and shoot to kill. Some call it a moral right, and I do include myself within that class.
~ Lawson to Walter White.

Lawson is a minor character in the crime drama series Breaking Bad and its prequel series Better Call Saul. He is an arms dealer who sells guns to Walter White and Mike Ehrmantraut.

He was portrayed by Jim Beaver.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • He is an experienced arms dealer, having been in the business for over 30 years.
  • He is a firearms expert, sharing his knowledge of products he offers to customers.
  • He has evaded detection from the police throughout his career due to making his guns hard to be traced, by grinding down their serial numbers and altering the metal density through stipple machine presses to prevent acid from eating through. In addition, he wipes his fingerprints off of the M40A1 rifle he sells to Mike.
  • He always has a calm, collected and good-natured demeanor when running his business.
  • He puts the interests of his clients before his own, for example when he declines money from Mike for his troubles and advises Walt to practice his draw as well as giving him related tips.
  • He has standards in dealing with criminals, as seen when he recommends Walt to purchase a gun legally, even though it would cost him more and Walt less, and sells him a machine gun on the condition that it won't be smuggled outside the country.
  • He assists Mike in test-firing the sniper rifle and teaches him the proper way to shoot it before selling it to him.
    • As a result, he also indirectly saves Jimmy's life as Mike would use the rifle to eliminate the Colombian Gang when they tried to rob and kill Jimmy.
  • He secretly meets with Walt in a Denny's bathroom and provides him an M60 machine gun with a car and instruction manual, allowing Walt to wipe out Jack Welker's gang and free Jesse from slavery.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • He sells weapons to criminals, most notably Walt and Mike, and has connections to Saul Goodman.
