“ | It has been a while since I have had a visitor. I am quite thrilled. This sorry facility was once the testing ground for the NULL project. New Mecca's most promising soldiers and scientists were run through my gauntlet to ascertain their suitability. Let's see how suitable you are. | „ |
~ Leon's pre-recorded message to Zero upon entering the Slaughterhouse. |
Leon von Alvensleben is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside the Boss) of the 2019 indie action-platformer game Katana Zero.
He was the creator of Chronos and the NULL project, both of which were used by the New Mecca government to produce supersoldiers to aid in their war against the Cromags. After the war's conclusion and subsequent cancellation of the NULL project, Alvensleben put himself in stasis in a cryotank, presumably to prolong his lifespan.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He generally carries an affability and sophistication, not releasing his mentality to go mad, admitting he is thrilled by Zero's arrival instead.
- When the Cromag War broke out between New Mecca and Cromags, Leon -as a member of New Meccan Government- worked on empowering his side to gain victory, creating the NULL project and Chronos drugs in the process.
- With the NULL project he created and oversaw, he aimed to produce super soldiers with precognitive powers using Chronos, a military drug specifically created by himself.
- With the Chronos drugs he created, his super soldiers are granted with some supernatural (and godlike as stated in universe) abilities, such as empowered combat, slowing the perception of time and rewinding time to a certain point.
- He produced lots of super soldiers and classified them as Alpha, Beta, and Gamma NULLs, which defines their power from less to more respectively. His most powerful NULLs are Zero, Fifteen and Headhunter, which are also the main catalysts of the events within the story.
- After the withdrawal of New Mecca from the Cromag War and stopping of Chronos manufacturing, Leon put himself into cryostasis to extend his lifespan, preventing himself from aging.
- He turned a slaughterhouse into an obstacle course for NULL soldiers, and also for the trespassers who came into the location. He set up automated defense and communication systems around the slaughterhouse, including screens which automatically display prerecorded messages upon detecting certain individuals, crusher traps, and an automated sniper rifle.
- Until Zero's arrival, there was no one to survive Leon's obstacle course, which he states the failure rate is "astronomical".
- Despite his projects got failed, Leon was willing to restart them until his demise from Zero's hands.
- Despite getting killed by Zero, Leon is still a tough individual for Zero and the most impactful one as he is the primary catalyst behind the creation of him.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- Overall, his inventions caused lots of war crimes committed by the NULL soldiers, which caused civilian casualities and protests of the people of New Mecca, eventually concluding with the withdrawal of the government. Furthermore, they also caused nearly all of the events and incidents throughout the story, as most of the plot revolves around Chronos and the NULL project.
- As he stated that the failure rate of his obstacle course is astronomical and most of the Alpha and Beta NULLs fail to survive in the training program, it can be inferred thet he caused lots of additional deaths within the slaughterhouse.
- When the New Mecca government withdrew due to the public protests, Leon transformed his slaughterhouse into an obstacle course full of traps, and kept himself in a cryotank to extend his lifespan. When he stays away from any action, most of the NULL soldiers died from the lack of Chronos drugs and the remaining ones became contract assassins in exchange for Chronos to stay alive.
