~ Leslie deciding to become a supervillain |
Leslie's supervillain persona is the main antagonist of the WordGirl episode Leslie Makes It Big.
After being belittled by her boss, Mr. Big, Leslie decides to prove his assumptions wrong by taking on a mantle of a supervillain. Her plan is to brainwash all of the citizens in Fair City using a giant mind-control device disguised as a plush bunny. While she is only an outright supervillain in this one episode, she proves herself to be a far more competent villain than her boss.
She is voiced by Maria Bamford.
What makes her Magnificent?[]
- When Mr. Big arrogantly says that she can't pull of an evil plan without him and calls her claim that she can do it "ridiculous" (while being arrested because of his own incompetence), Leslie immediately usurps his position as the head of Mr. Big Enterprises to prove his assumptions wrong. She brainwashes all of Mr. Big's employees and has them go out to execute a plan that she seemingly thought of on the spot.
- She has her brainwashed army go on a massive crime spree all across the city, stealing pink fur, feathers, and giant eyeballs. When WordGirl stops one of her minions, another crime is already taking place somewhere else. WordGirl is unable to stop the horde of assistants from gathering all of the materials that Leslie needs because of their sheer, overwhelming numbers.
- When WordGirl confronts Leslie, she wonders what she's planning on making with the stolen goods and jokes that Leslie's making a "giant, fluffy bunny." However, this is exactly what Leslie is planning. She plans to build a giant bunny atop Mr. Big's skyscraper, causing everyone in the city to be enamored by its cuteness and stare at it nonstop. Unbeknownst to them, the bunny is actually a mind-control device and everyone looking at it will allow Leslie to brainwash everyone in the city in one fell swoop.
- When WordGirl gears up to stop her evil plan, she has a large group of assistants ambush and overwhelm her, forcing the superhero to flee.
- While WordGirl flies back to confront Leslie once more after allying with Mr. Big, a group of people are shown admiring Leslie's bunny. This shows that she accurately predicted Fair City's citizens' reactions to her creation.
- When Mr. Big appears behind her wielding a universal remote capable of shutting down her bunny, he leans against it and squeezes it. He immediately becomes enamored with the bunny because of how well-made it is and betrays WordGirl to team up with Leslie. This gives Leslie the opportunity to have her assistants tie up WordGirl and Captain Huggyface.
- Additionally, Leslie's acceptance of Mr. Big's alliance, albeit unenthusiastic, shows that she's still loyal to him despite usurping him.
- She comes much closer than a majority of the show's villains to taking over Fair City as she and Mr. Big activate the machine, brainwashing the citizens. WordGirl is only able to beat her at the last second by breaking free and pressing the off button on the universal remote.
- While her plan to take over Fair City ultimately failed, she was till satisfied with herself because that was a secondary goal for her. Her main goal was to prove to Mr. Big that she's no incompetent mook, which she managed to pull of beautifully. She then accepts her arrest and the other villains in jail are shown smiling at and high-fiving her, showing that the other characters in the story acknowledge and respect her status as a brilliant criminal mastermind.
What makes her a Baddie?[]
- She brainwashes all of the employees at Mr. Big Enterprises into stealing pink fur, feathers, and giant eyeballs all across Fair City so she can build a giant mind-control device disguised as a cute bunny. She, alongside Mr. Big, then use this device to attempt to brainwash everyone in Fair City in one fell swoop while they're busy staring at the cute bunny.
