You got the makings of greatness in ya, but you've got to take the helm and chart your own course. Stick to it, no matter the squalls. And when the time comes, you'll get the chance to really test the cut of your sails and show what you're made of. Well, I hope I'm there, catching some of the light coming off you that day.
~ John Silver inspiring speech to Jim, also his most famous quote.

Long John Silver (better known as John Silver), also referred to as the Cyborg, is the main antagonist and deuteragonist of the 43rd full-length feature film in the Disney animated canon Treasure Planet.

What Makes Him Magnificant?[]

  • Using his charisma, he tricked everyone on the ship into thinking he was the chef, when in actuality he was the leader of a band of pirates who was planning to rob Treasure Planet upon arrival.
  • When he became Jim's boss during the latter's time on RLS Legacy, he became a father figure towards him and formed a genuine bond with him in spite of his original motives still being present.
  • He's opposed to unnecessary violence and killing, as shown by the ire he expressed upon learning that Scroop had thrown Mr. Arrow into a black hole.
  • While his care for Jim initially put a dent in his plans to rob Treasure Planet, he was quick to come up with backup plans such as trying to negotiate with Jim or waiting for Jim to return to B.E.N.'s hideout so he could steal the map from them.
  • Ultimately, he chose to sacrifice his chancing of getting the treasure to save Jim during Treasure Planet's destruction.
  • Before leaving, he left Morph in Jim's care and gave him half of the treasure John himself has managed to salvage from Treasure Planet to rebuild the Benbow Inn.
  • Unlike most versions of John Silver, he actually likes Mr. Arrow and is an anti villain.
    • He even threatened Scroop for killing him, saying if he disobeyed his orders, he "would be joining him".

What Makes Him A Baddie?[]

  • He was responsible for the burning of Benbow Inn at the beginning of the film,
  • His initial motive for coming on the trip to Treasure Planet was to loot the planet for his own personal gain, but this is something he later came to shed by the end of the film.
