“ | No, my good sir, I go out on my own. | „ |
~ Marcus telling Viggo that he is going to die on his own terms. |
Marcus is a character from the 2014 movie John Wick. He is a Veteran hitman who is the mentor and close friend to fellow hitman John Wick. When Mob Boss Viggo Tarasov asks Marcus to kill John Wick, Marcus accepts, unaware to Viggo that he is actually planning on saving John from Viggo's men.
He was played by Willem Dafoe.
What makes him Magnificent?[]
- He has a cool and awesome performance by Willem Dafoe.
- He is John Wick's friend and mentor and the fact that he was able to teach John Wick about being a hitman is pretty impressive.
- Shows up to John's wife's funeral to pay respect.
- When Viggo approaches Marcus and asks him to kill John Wick for two million dollars, he accepts when in actuality, he plans on saving John from Viggo's men showing that he is a true and loyal friend at heart.
- Shoots at John's pillow in the Continental hotel room to alert him to fellow assassin Ms. Perkins entering the room and later kills Viggo's men when they are about to suffocate John.
- When Viggo tries to kill him for failing to do his job, he refuses to be tortured to death and kills Viggo's men and forces Viggo to shoot him to death, all while going out on his terms and refusing to give Viggo the satisfaction of torturing him to death.
- Viggo says that he is "the last of the old guard" (which is most likely a previous generation of hitmen), meaning he has a lot of fighting experience and it absolutely shows during his death scene where he takes out Viggo's men despite being beat upped and stabbed not too long ago. It's also implied that he could have survived if Ms. Perkins wasn't in the room.
What makes him a Baddie?[]
- While he doesn't do anything that bad onscreen, he is still a hitmen involved in a major crime world meaning he has no issue with killing people for money. The fact that he has a ton of experience with killing doesn't help too.
