Can feel my power growing, feeding off my anger. Father would say I've lost the path of balance, but he could never understand: the only way to fight a monster is to become one.
~ Martin Li giving into his hatred and desire of revenge towards Norman Osborn

Martin Li - Also known as Mister Negative - is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Doctor Octopus) of the 2018 Marvel superhero game Marvel's Spider-Man and a major character in its 2023 sequel, Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

He is a Chinese billionaire who is the founder and former CEO of F.E.A.S.T., a major organization that deals with helping the homeless population of New York City by supplying homeless shelters. In the past, Martin Li underwent an experiment conducted by Norman Osborn that went to the deaths of his parents. Enraged, Martin Li decides to take his revenge against him.

He was voiced by Stephen Oyoung

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • This portrayal of Mister Negative managed to be so well-received that it significantly increased the popularity of his comics counterpart, who was rather obscure beforehand.
  • His actor Stephen Oyoung gives him a smooth, immensely charming performance.
  • He is incredibly tragic. He was a boy stuck with a demonic being inside of him causing his parents to seek treatment from Oscorp, only for the experiment to go wrong and kill his parents. This left Li full of hatred and a desire to get revenge on Norman Osborn.
  • Is genuinely affable, with him creating F.E.A.S.T. out of sincere goodwill, throwing Aunt May a party for being a dedicated volunteer, and it's implied that the reason he liked Peter is because he sees himself in him.
  • Has a strong coolness to him thanks tk his photo-negative design and his ability to corrupt and brainwash people by getting inside their mind and using their vulnerabilities against them.
  • Takes advantage over the Kingpin’s arrest in order to increase his power in the criminal underworld.
  • Brainwashes a guard into letting Shocker out of his cell then kills him to cover his tracks.
  • Successfully had his men steal several weapons from Kingpin's shipyard.
  • Brainwashed a man into into appearing onstage during Norman Osborn's campaign rally then acting as a suicide bomber so he could take a subtle approach to attacking his rally.
  • Brought several businesses and wearhouses so he could use then as bases for his operations.
  • Hid a secret room in F.E.A.S.T. where he activated a burn trap that would remove evidence of his wrongdoings.
  • Slows Peter down by brainwashing a couple of homeless people and had them attack him in order to get away.
  • Successfully intercepts Issac Deleany and corrupts him to reveal the chief scientist of the Devil's Breath project before having him shoot himself in the head to cover his tracks.
  • Corrupts several ESU students to slow Peter down while he gives chase.
  • Manages to hijack the shield transportation trucking carrying Morgan Michaels and the Devil’s Breath serum, causing him to successfully steal the serum.
  • Manages to hold the New York Centeral Terminal hostage and nearly uses it to get Norman Osborn to release Devil’s Breath onto the public.
  • Nearly manages to retrieve the Devil’s Breath serum and kill Norman Osborn.
  • Was able to kill several people during Kraven's gladiator games, showing his skill as a fighter.
  • Nearly succeeds in mentally destroying and breaking Miles mind by prodding into his insecurities and using them against him.
  • Tracks down Peter by heading to F.E.A.S.T. as he know Peter would be alerted to his location.
  • When he learns Miles is the son of the police officer he killed, he is fully remorse and redeems himself by helping him rescue Peter from the remaining symbioite.
  • Although he does panic when he is drowning inside his transfer container, this is understandable since he is the under the impression that Miles is going to let him die. He later on shows no fear when he has to fight or his life and requests Miles to kill him when he realizes he killed his father.
  • Although the first game makes it clear that he is so far consumed with vengeance that he ends up ruining his life, the sequel ends up toning it down with him being concerned with survival rather then revenge and ends his story moving on from his hatred of Osborn and commits to changing for the better.
  • Although Mister Negative is easily heinous enough by the standards of the game, his large amount or sympathetic qualities prevent him from being too deplorable. In addition, nothing he does ever is done for needless cruelty and is only done to further his revenge against Osborn.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
