The Eternal Night is here!
~ Morgana's most famous line as she is released from her prison, also her last words before being trapped in the Shadow Realm.
The world isn't ours anymore. You have failed to destroy it; I have failed to save it. Perhaps they can fare better. You are no longer worthy of wielding Excalibur!
~ Morgana's redemption as she strips Arthur of his right to wield Excalibur and purifying it from the dark magic inflicted on it

Morgan le Fay, also known as Morgana, is a major character in DreamWorks' Tales of Arcadia franchise, serving as the main antagonist of its first installment, Trollhunters, and a major character in its third installment, Wizards. She is the brother of King Arthur Pendragon and the childhood friend and sister-in-law of Queen Guinevire, as well as the first apprentice of the great Merlin Ambrosius, whose fall to the dark side triggered thanks to her brother's genocidal campaign and completes with his death moments before their reconciliation. She is also the former champion of the Arcane Order, and has become the leader of the Gumm-Gumm army after she manages to overshadowtheir previous leader, Gunmar, who became her second-in-command.

She was voiced by Lena Headey.

What Makes Her Magnificent?[]

  • Unlike the rest of the main villains of the franchise, Morgana has easily the least destructive plan in scale in just humanity, compared to General Morando, Bellroc & Skrael's goals to destroy the entire universe at large.
    • It should also be noted she is extremely uncomfortable with such goals, having asked Arthur why he would side with 2 demigods that want to destroy everything.
  • Unlike the rest of the Arcane Order (including her brother), and of the main villains in the franchise, Morgana has the strongest excuse of them all, after having seen the horrors of her brother's genocidal campaign bringing death to multiple trolls, seeking freedom for magic kind.
  • Immediately recovering her composture after snapping in the third episode of Wizards that kickstarts her fall to the Dark Side, Morgana then creates a new race of trolls called changelings, to effectively blend in with the human world with human forms of their own, using one named Janus to assassinate Merlin and Arthur whenever they are busy, and also destroy the remaining of Camelot's defenses as backup whenever it fails to leave the kingdom in a defenseless position.
  • She immediately deduces Claire when she spies on her in the Shadow Realm.
  • Manipulates Gunmar and his entire Gumm-Gumm army to her command using their desire to overthrow mankind through the Eternal Night, managing to orchestrate the Battle of Killahead.
  • Puts up a good fight with merlin and Douxie combined, then uses Shadow clones of herself to distract them while she goes to strike down Arthur.
  • Despite hating man's treatment of magic, Morgana has ultimately proven she really isn't xenophobic against them compared to Bellroc and Skrael, as she was about to accept Arthur's apology, reconciliation and help him amend the bond between humans and magic and bring peace, only stopped because Bellroc murders him before the moment could even happen and prolongs the war.
  • Puts up a great fight with Merlin and Douxie even after being broken down by Arthur's death to the point that she knocks down Merlin out cold for 900 years despite him being one of the most powerful wizards ever, and sealing her drained most of Merlin's magic.
  • Immediately recovering from her breakdown due to Arthur's, and now being disposed of as a pawn for Bellroc and Skrael, Morgana is now independent on her own and no longer being played with, having grown even more strategically, having tricked Angor into becoming her assassin of Trollhunters which she will use as a pawn later in her grand strategy to release herself.
  • By being the master of Angor Rot and the grand advisor to the Janus Order, an entire organization of changelings dedicate to Gunmar's freedom, Morgana uses them to lure Jim to the Darklands to have him face Gunmar the Black.
  • She saves the lives of Claire, Toby, Blinky, and NotEnrique by telling the Janus Order (who are detaining them), their intentions to resurrect Aarghaumont, to have them rescue Jim for her plan to free Gunmar from his exile to the Darklands.
  • Tricks Claire into using too much Shadow Magic to use her as a pawn in her grand plan for freedom, using her to cripple the Trollhunters' defense for Arcadia against the Gumm-Gumms by removing the signs they use, and to also gain the head of the deceased Angor Rot to give to Gunmar.
  • Reveals herself to Gunmar to end up bringing the entire Gumm-Gumm army back to her command again using the Eternal Night.
  • Manages to use Jim's relationship with Claire to trick him that she is indeed Claire in her attempt to kill him, which nearly succeeded if it weren't for NotEnrique knocking her out cold, something she has no right to escape.
  • Even when bound by chains when Jim and Toby attempt to free Claire, Morgana uses Strickler's love for Jim's mother, Barbara, to close the portal, nearly succeeding if it weren't for Blinky's sudden interference, and even then, knocks them out and closes the portal and trapping them in.
  • Even despite her failure in killing Jim, even she notes that whether it did or not, it won't matter as Gunmar knows how to bring the Eternal Night, who brings the Eye of Angor Rot from his stone head to revive him, even giving back his soul after doing.
  • Uses Angor And Gunmar to get the Staff of Avalon, and use Strickler being kicked out of the Janus Order, to free herself from her prison, doing what she planned for centuries.
  • Succeeds in creating the Eternal Night, and has the Gumm-Gumms, Gunmar, and Angor fight on the surface to leave herself "unprotected" to bait Merlin to his death, nearly killing him before Aarrrgghh!!! summons the spirits of all the past Trollhunters to possess the Gumm-Gumms soldiers.
  • Even with that setback, Morgana manages to tear her way through them to face Jim on the surface after Gunmar's death, giving him and his team the toughest fight in their lives.
  • Even despite Angor's betrayal and redemption, Morgana remains to be a tough opponent to fight, even managing to kill Angor, who she turns into one of the most prolific fighters and assassins in history, to free herself from his restraint.
  • She shatters the Eclipse Blade, the only blade in history that can kill Gunmar, one of the most powerful trolls there is as if it were glass and is barely injured despite being impaled by it and that Gumar died from a mere slash from it.
  • It only took the destruction of the Shadow Staff to finally stop her, and while would've lost her cool when she tried to drag Claire to the Shadow Realm, she immediately accepts her reimprisonment and is willing to stay there for the rest of eternity, even begging Bellroc and Skrael to send her back when they released her once more for their scheme.
  • Is horrified by Arthur's cold-blooded murder of Merlin.
  • Tricks the rest of the Arcane Order and renders most of Skrael's suspicions moot, by claiming she is looking for the Genesis Seals through the Shadow Realm, in order to find her brother's soul and try redeeming him.
  • In her quest to find her brother's soul, she bonds with Claire.
  • Was disgusted by her brother's willing servitude towards Bellroc & Skrael and their grand plans on wiping out the universe, for his own cathartic. Due to this, she redeems herself, stripping him of his right to wield Excalibur and then after being killed by him, uses the last of her strength to bait him to his death on being crushed by the rubble of the Arcane Order's fortress, before her entry to the afterlife, reconciles with Merlin and congratulates Douxie in his victory over Bellroc and Skrael.
  • If any sort of xenophobia was present after her defeat in the First Battle of Killahead, she would've definitely abandoned it when she teams up with Guardians of Arcadia to foil Bellroc and Skrael's omnicidal plan in their attempt to erase humanity from existence.

What Makes Her a Baddie?[]

  • Her main goal was to unleash the Eternal Night to have Gunmar and his army the opportunity to devour all of humanity, having been the one to bring up the idea to Gunmar in the first place.
  • She takes Angor Rot's soul and uses it to enslave and brainwash him into her ruthless assassin, who would harvest the souls of all he killed and baring them from entering the void, and when Angor remembers who he originally was and redeems, she proceeds to kill him in cold-blood.
  • She psychically enslaves Claire, having her remove the signs that kept the Gumm-Gumms away, before possessing her and using her body to kill Jim despite being aware of their relationship, even taking sadistic delight on it.
  • She massacres many of the Gumm-Gumms to create the Eternal Night.

Trivia[]

  • She is the only villain from the Tales of Arcadia franchise to be a Magnificent Baddie.
  • She and Haggar is are the only DreamWorks MB to be a woman in Television.
  • While proving her extreme strategic prowess in Trollhunters, and that her returning Angor Rot's soul to him was admirable, it would only be until Wizards Morgana can be considered a Magnificent Baddie thanks to her sympathetic traits and redemption, as well as the introduction of viler villains like Morando, Bellroc & Skrael, which gave her enough charm to overshadow how vile and heinous she was as she was too vile for the trope beforehand (having been considered a very vile PE at that time).
