Mother Miranda is one of the overarching antagonists (alongside Oswell E. Spencer and James Marcus) of the Resident Evil franchise. She is the unseen overarching antagonist of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the main antagonist of its sequel Resident Evil Village and it’s DLC Shadows of Rose.
She is the leader of the cult known as the Four Houses, who have houses across the European Village. She is also a head scientist of the crime syndicate known as the Connections, who discovered the mold when she also created Eveline. Her actions also helped set the stage for several events throughout the series.
In Japanese, she is voiced by Sayaka Kinoshita in her true form, Kiyoko Miyazawa as "The Hag" and Akari Higuchi as Mia Winters. In English, she is voiced by Michelle Lukes in her true form, Carol Stanzione as "The Hag" and Katie O'Hagan as Mia Winters.
What Makes Her Magnificent?[]
- She is very intelligent, while she was originally a peasant woman living in rural Romania or some other Eastern European country, after touching the Megamycete she gained super knowledge. while most of her plans and experiments fail she always moves on to the next candidate and never loses her composure
- She is very manipulative as she made the villagers have the utmost faith in her. able to deceive Chris Redfield into thinking she was dead after 5 headshots and Ethan into thinking she was Mia for a week and getting him to kill the 4 lords of the village.
- She was originally a peasant woman who had a minorly tragic backstory of her daughter Eva dying of the Spanish flu in 1910, and wanting to commit suicide she discovered the Megamycete, a giant ancient fungal hivemind colony.
- When touching the Megamycete, she had visions of countless people's memories consumed by the Fungus including Eva's and realized she can resurrect her daughter using the megamycete, which she dubs "The Black God". She also gained vast powers such as immortality.
- Discovers "The Mold" a virus from the Megamycete which can resurrect the dead, and made the Cadou parasite from it.
- Went back to the village as a doctor and injected the Mold into the villagers which cured them of the Spanish Flu, the proclaimed herself the prophet of "The Black God". then the villages abandoned their Christian faith and began worshipping Miranda and the Megamycete.
- When Oswell E Spencer got lost hiking in the Village, she taught him genetics, and the two ended up drifting apart where Spencer founded Umbrella, but still kept in touch via letters.
- For 111 years she has tried to bring back her daughter without giving up through countless people, with none bearing fruit as they either turned into Lycans (wolfmen) or just dead, the only ones who came close to perfect were Alcina Dimitrescu, Donna Beneviento, Salvatore Moreau & Karl Heisenberg, who she dubs the 4 lords and kept them as her lieutenants and they (mostly) serve under her orders.
- While her experiments with the Cadou are mostly fucked up, it's not really her fault, as the Cadou has a high chance of killing people or turning them into a Lycan.
- Chances are, she knows Heisenberg is rebelling against her. hinted in the line "With Heisenberg gone, you've lost your lead, What are you going to do?"
- She kept tabs on the village disguised as "the Hag".
- In 2014, she was approached by the connections, who she gave some DNA of Eva and they made Eveline, who was another, not complete, failure in Miranda's eyes, but still kept her as a Bio Organic Weapon.
- Found out about one of the Connections handlers for Eveline, Mia Winters & her Husband Ethan Winters, who was infected by her mold and survived Eveline, had a baby Rosemary Winters, she believed Rose could be the perfect subject for Eva's Rebirth.
- Kidnapped Mia and disguised as her for a week without her husband Ethan noticing anything at all.
- Survived being Shot by Chris and his mercs and played dead. allowing them to put her in the back of a truck with Ethan and Rose.
- Crashes the truck, kills the soldiers inside and kidnaps Rose, while leaving Ethan alive, although freezing.
- Went back to the village where she began planning the ceremony for Eva's Rebirth by putting her consciousness inside Rose's body but first keeping Rose alive and ripping her apart and put into 4 jars.
- Gave each lord a Rose jar for safekeeping, which was a trap as she knew Ethan would come to the Village searching for his daughter. while giving the lords permission to kill all their assistants and maids and unleashing the Lycans on the village with hardly any survivors by morning.
- After Ethan fought waves of Lycans, She disguises as the hag and manipulates Ethan into finding Rose in the Village and leaves him.
- When Heisenberg kidnaps Ethan, Miranda gives Heisenberg permission to do whatever he wants with him & he puts Ethan in a death run with Lycans. She also put mighty Dimitrescu in her place.
- Has Ethan kill all her four lords of the village to power the megamycete, and steal their flasks while she remains hidden.
- When Ethan put all the jars at the Altar and went to Heisenberg's factory she began the ritual to bring her daughter back.
- After Ethan kills Heisenberg, she reveals herself to Ethan telling him she masterminded everything in the past 24 hours 7 her plans to bring back her daughter, that she was the hag all along then rips his heart out and promises to sample his blood later.
- Successfully revives Rose again in the ritual but not Eva. Then Rose begins to drain Miranda of her powers and Ethan miraculously shows up surviving his heartbreak.
- Mutates into an abomination and fights Ethan one last time with Ethan emerging victorious Miranda dies and her consciousness is transferred into the megamycete.
- Possess the entire megamycete with a bomb inside it and begins chasing Ethan, Rose & Chris, but Ethan stays behind and sacrifices himself to destroy Miranda killing the two. in the real world.
- While she did die in the hands of Ethan Winters twice, her spirit lingers on in the remains of the megamycete that survived the explosion and still tries to get her daughter back by making clones of Rose Winters and giving them to the Masked Duke to test on to obtain the perfect vessel.
- 16 years later, she manipulated Rose by giving her a hallucination of one of her handlers Dion "Canine" Wilson by saying she can get rid of her powers by diving into a remnant of the megamycete to obtain a purifying crystal
- Once Rose finds the crystal in the megamycete and gets rid of her powers. Miranda shows herself and reveals that she was the hallucination & wanted Rose ot get rid of her powers so she can have a chance to be a new vessel for Eva.
- Fights Rose again and tries manipulating her into giving up but Rose emerges victorious and kills Miranda, and Miranda screams Eva's name one last time before she is dead, for good this time.
- She very much cares about her daughter Eva. to the point where she would literally sacrifice everything just to get her back. Even the final words in both lives are her screaming and calling for her Eva, giving her a sympathetic death.
- While heinous enough by Resident Evil standards, she isn't too evil for the series, like several other Resident Evil villains such as the corrupt rapist Brian Irons, the omnicidal Albert Wesker, or the just plain evil Derek Simmons. Most of what she did was to get her daughter back and go to extreme lengths to get it making her a foil to Ethan Winters.
What Makes Her A Baddie?[]
- Experimented on countless people for a century turning them into Lycans or outright killing them.
- Made the 4 lords of the Village where she allowed them to do their own experiments & Eveline who went on her own spree.
- Put Rosemary Winters, a baby, in an "I Must Scream" fate (or a fate worse than death) by calcifying her and then ripping her into 4 pieces, the head, the arms, the legs & the torso which she put into 4 jars and gave to the 4 lords one jar each for safekeeping while keeping Rose still alive and aware.
- Genociding the village & having Ethan kill her 4 lords who were all (mostly) extremely devoted to her, with her personally killing the last survivor Lulian.
- Ripped Ethan's heart out making him die very slowly once he outlived his use.
- Dragged Rose into a nightmare where she still tries to make her into Eva.
