~ Ms. Chalice's song.

Ms. Chalice is a supporting protagonist of the animated series The Cuphead Show!.

A much more anti-heroic take on the character of the same name from the original game, she is an incredibly charming half-ghost and knows how to use said charisma to get everything she could ever want for free and live the easy life as a scammer. During one of her escapades, she will meet and make great friends with the show's two, less streetwise protagonists Cuphead and Mugman.

She is voiced by Grey DeLisle-Griffin who also voiced Azula.

What Makes Her Magnificent?[]

  • She is extremely charismatic and, with just her cute looks and an endearing song and dance, she is able to charm anyone into giving her whatever she wants for free. She is so charming, in fact, that it apparently took months for her victims to even realize she duped them.
  • She has a tragic and sympathetic backstory, having been raised in an abusive orphanage and was forced to escape.
  • She has been effortlessly evading the police for a long time with street-wisdom and clever tricks and disguises.
  • Her in-universe charm extends on a meta level as she's given a charismatic and endearing performance by legendary voice actress Grey DeLisle-Griffin and a couple catchy songs.
  • She takes the two cup brothers under her wing and tries (and partially succeeds, as we see in "Charmed and Dangerous") to teach them how to be charming, while also genuinely befriending them and even getting them into a cookie factory to make them happy.
  • She convinces Elder Kettle and even Cuphead and Mugman, who she had betrayed earlier, to give her shelter from the angry mob out for her blood.
  • She has fun with the cups and even wins a dance contest with them.
  • She uses her ghostly powers to scare away the angry mob and save Cuphead and Mugman, who the mob was going to harm just to have someone to vent their anger on.
  • She parades as a scary ghost so that Cuphead and Mugman, who parade as ghost-catchers, can be paid to "catch" her, earning the trio a lot of coin.
  • She saves the cup brothers from being imprisoned for centuries by the Birnbaum quadruplets and, after a chase scene, is the one to defeat and imprison the four ghosts.
  • Helped Cuphead and Mugman deliver the special package to Ribby and Croaks, even managing to trick Croaks into thinking they had a Jukebox. While she was also obsessing over the shoes like Mugman, unlike him she still focused on their task at hand.
  • Using her ghost abilities, she and the brothers pull numerous clever pranks on the Inkwell Isle residents during their "Day of Fun".
  • When confronted by The Devil about their deal, she charmed him onto joining her in a dance and proceeded to distract him for months on end, only being stopped by Stickler finally reminding him of their deal.
  • Despite her life being on the line, she ultimately refused to let The Devil capture Cuphead and Mugman's souls, telling them everything before they signed the contract.
  • Before The Devil began to kill her, she convinces him into engaging with a Dance-Off for her soul by prodding at his ego, and then proceeded to dominate the resulting competition between the two. It's implied she would've won if it wasn't for her Marble gift from Cuphead, and even then it was more of a freak accident than anything.
  • While she initially showed fear at The Devil killing her, both times when she's at his mercy she calmly accepts her seeming death, apologizing to Cuphead and Mugman and admitting they really were her friends.
  • While not totally immune to the show's slapstick humor, she's much less of a victim compared to the other characters, especially The Devil and King Dice, and ends all of her appearances with her dignity intact.

What Makes Her a Baddie?[]

  • She is a remorseless con artist who routinely scams people by getting stuff for free with her charm (or even her fear factor as a half-ghost as of "Dead Broke") and has evaded justice for years.
  • While she was reluctant to do so and later redeemed herself from it, she left Cuphead and Mugman to fend for themselves when the police caught the three of them breaking into the cookie factory, leading to the brothers ending up in prison.
  • Alongside Cuphead and Mugman, she used her ghost powers to pull various pranks on the residents during their Day of Fun in "Joyride", including possessing Elder Kettle.

Trivia[]

  • Ms. Chalice originally did not qualify as, in her only appearance in the first season, she ended her arc on a cowardly note when she escaped the premises, leaving Cuphead and Mugman at the police's mercy. However, in season 2, she redeemed herself from this cowardice by saving the brothers from both an angry mob and the Birnbaum quadruplets when she could've easily escaped those times also, thus she finally qualified.
  • Her original counterpart doesn't qualify as a MB due to how she isn't much of a baddie.
