NOTE: This article is only about the version of Ms. Tarantula from the 2022 animated film adaptation, as the original book version, Mr. Tarantula, was not voted a Magnificent Baddie. Thus, only movie Tarantula's info and actions should be put here.

Wolf: Very slick, Webs.
Tarantula: I also took over the police dispatch, blurred their satellite imaging system, grounded their chopper and one more thing.
~ Webs during a police chase,
Boys, it's dolphin season.
~ Webs preparing for the Golden Dolphin heist.

Ms. Tarantula, also known as "Webs" is one of the three tritagonists (alongside Mr. Shark and Mr. Piranha) of The Bad Guys, Dreamworks' 2022 animated film adaptation of Aaron Blabey's book series of the same name.

A techno wizard and master hacker and a very sarcastic gal, Webs is a valuable asset to the titular Bad Guys, a gang of thieves forced into criminality by society's stereotypes over scary animals. Her colleagues are the strategic leader Mr. Wolf, the safecracker Mr. Snake, the master of disguise Mr. Shark and the muscle Mr. Piranha.

When the Bad Guys try to steal the famed Golden Dolphin and go down in criminal history but fail and are arrested, Webs will join Wolf's scheme to feign redemption so as to be freed, but, as Wolf soon becomes genuine, Webs will also eventually reform for real, even helping stop a larger threat alongside the rest of the gang and the Governor Diane Foxington.

She is voiced by Awkwafina.

What Makes Her Magnificent?[]

  • She's given a very fun, snarky performance by Awkwafina.
  • She is possibly the most sarcastic and witty character in the film (rivaled, at most, only by Diane Foxington) and it leads to her having a lot of fun banter, especially with the sardonic Mr. Snake or as she is baffled by Mr. Shark and Mr. Piranha's tomfoolery.
  • She wears a very stylish hoodie and headphones.
  • In spite of being a tarantula, she is possibly the most adorable-looking character in the film thanks to her cute face (including two big incisive to simulate a spider's mandibles), small size and fuzzy texture.
  • Through natural talent (and tutorials on Youtube), Webs is a tech wizard, able to effortlessly hack almost any digital system with the use of her personal advanced laptop.
  • She has the hobby of going to the gym to stay fit.
  • Like all other members of the Bad Guys, she is ultimately tragic, as she chose the life of crime due to the world fearing her for being a spider and she simply learned to like the villain life.
  • As they have been her only friends for most of her life due to their similar condition, she deeply cares for her colleagues, the Bad Guys, even if she's often very snarky towards them, and is always willing to put her life on the line for their sake. In particular, she affectionally nicknames Mr. Wolf "Wolfie".
  • An essential member to the gang thanks to her hacking (arguably, she's the second most important member after the strategist Wolf), Webs and the Bad Guys have successfully pulled off countless heists and stolen immense amounts of treasure, while always evading the police.
  • In spite of being a wanted criminal, she manages to vote and even voted for Diane as Governor because she liked her policies on climate issues, showing Webs cares about the environment.
  • In the police chase at the beginning of the film, she takes over the police dispatch, blurs their satellite image system so the Bad Guys aren't tracked down, grounds her chopper and then hacks the traffic lights so that they are all green when Wolf and Snake need to pass, but turn red when the police catch up, also getting them in road accidents. As the cherry on top, for Snake's birthday, she even has a cake delivered to the Bad Guys mid-chase by a delivery boy on a motorbike.
  • As the gang try to steal the Golden Dolphin, she and the rest infiltrate the museum the night of the ceremony by disguising themselves. Webs then sneaks into the security camera room, manages to tie up the personnel there and from there activates communication between the Bad Guys.
  • When, as they go for the Dolphin, Wolf, Snake and Piranha have to deal with the Wolf, Piranha, Snake, Shark, Tarantula Protection System, she begins the WPSST override protocol, putting all her effort and hacking (inc. additional keyboards) to taking down that system, even braving Piranha's stress gas as best as she can.
  • In the end, if the Bad Guys are successful in stealing the Golden Dolphin (before Wolf gives them away), it's in great part because of Webs saving them from the security system.
  • She joins in with Wolf's scheme to feign redemption so they can be pardoned and steal the Golden Dolphin again.
  • At the gala, she shows she has some skills as a DJ, and then uses her hacking to take full control of the power sources.
  • The Bad Guys' performance at the gala allows the charity to raise 1 billion dollars.
  • When the Bad Guys have a falling out with Wolf, feeling that he had betrayed them by turning good, Webs at least leaves with an apologetic "Sorry, Wolfie".
  • When, after they lost everything save for a single Push Pop, Snake acts generous for the first time in his life by giving it to Shark to cheer him up, Webs is the first one to suggest that maybe Wolf was right and they could and should reform. As they feel the "tingle" from feeling good, her, Piranha, Shark and a little later Snake all turn good.
  • She, Piranha and Shark go to rescue Wolf and Diane from Marmalade's trap and, while Shark, Piranha and even Wolf are too busy gushing over their "tingle" in spite of the situation, Webs is the one to deactivate the trap and save them. She then helps steal the Meteorite (actually a lamp, as Snake had done a switcharoo to trick Marmalade) so as to stop Marmalade's plan to use it to mind-control guinea pigs into stealing the charity money for him.
  • As her and the rest of the gang attach sappers on the money vans that the guinea pigs had hijacked (during which sequence Webs and Diane bond for a bit), Webs hacks them to redirect all the charity vans back to their original destinations (mostly hospitals and schools).
  • She and the rest of the gang turn down an opportunity to return the "Meteorite" to the police and be pardoned so they can risk their freedom and lives and retrieve Snake, "[Their] grumpypants", even though they still thought he was a traitor.
  • As the gang leaps over the crater to save Snake from the fall after Marmalade kicked him off his helicopter, Webs is content to die with her friends and tears up (even if she treats it as "pathetic") before Wolf saves them all with his grappling hook.
  • When Diane almost reveals she was the Crimson Paw to defend the Bad Guys (which would have just ruined her political career) and Wolf turns himself in to prevent Diane from doing so, Webs and the rest of the gang follow in tow without hesitation.
  • In prison, Webs and the Bad Guys are so well-behaved that they befriend the guards and, in spite of their countless heists, are released just a year later for good behavior.
  • Her, the Bad Guys, Diane and the cat ride off into the horizon, ready to start new lives as heroes.

What Makes Her a Baddie?[]

  • As the hacker of the Bad Guys, she routinely hacks into important databases and greatly contributes to the gang stealing huge amounts of loot from banks, museums and the likes, all while reveling in the infamy they get.
  • During the police chase at the beginning, she hacks the traffic lights and causes multiple road accidents so the gang can make a getaway.
  • During the Golden Dolphin heist, she assaults and ties up an innocent staff member working on security.
  • Confused on what to do with a cat stuck on a tree, she suggests sautéing it.

Trivia[]

  • Only the film version of Ms. Tarantula counts as a Magnificent Baddie as her book counterpart Mr. Tarantula, who is male and has the nickname "Legs", isn't an organized master thief like Webs is in the film and was never a Baddie in the first place, having joined the Bad Guys only after they had redeemed themselves into the Good Guys Club.
    • She's the only MB in the film whose original book counterpart doesn't qualify due to him not being enough of a Baddie.
  • She is the only MB in the film to not be a vertebrate.
  • Ironically, Akwafina, the voice actress of the Magnificent Baddie Webs also voiced the dimwitted Pure Good Sisu.
  • With 4 characters in it qualifying, The Bad Guys is currently the individual film with the highest number of Magnificent Baddies.
