The plot seems clever enough. The climax ought to be intriguing.
~ Mysterio, agreeing to work with Kingpin to kill Spider-Man.
Mysterio: It's payback time.
Spider-Man: Payback? For what?! You did it all to yourself!
Mysterio: Yes, that's what my psychiatrist said. But you know what? His sessions never made me feel this
good.
~ Mysterio to Spider-Man, admitting that he enjoys being a villain.

Quentin Beck, best known as Mysterio, is a supporting antagonist in Spider-Man: The Animated Series. He is a former special effects artist who spent a year in prison for endangering the cast on the set of a movie, and now wants to destroy Spider-Man for getting him arrested.

He was voiced by Gregg Berger.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • Pretty much his entire villain schtick revolves around pseudo-magic tricks, using CGI and animatronics that make him seem like a legitimate sorcerer.
  • In his debut, he not only frames Spider-Man for burglary and assault, but also sends him falling straight down into the East River in just their first battle, nearly driving the webslinger into early retirement in the process of it all.
  • He uses his mastery of illusions to break out of prison twice, even using the battery from a hidden Spider-Tracer to power up said illusions.
  • He more or less redeems himself in his last appearance, saving Spider-Man and Mary Jane from certain death at the hands of his own automatons, after which he stays behind to die in an explosion with his suicidal girlfriend Miranda (who he obviously really loves in spite of her deformities) just so that she doesn't die alone.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • In the past, he spent a year in prison for reckless endangerment, using mortars for bigger explosions without a permit on the set of a car chase movie.
  • He wants to kill Spider-Man for getting him arrested, ignoring that it was his own fault to begin with.
  • He tries to kill Jameson and Detective Lee by dropping them into a pit of spikes.

Trivia[]

  • So far, this is the only version of Mysterio to be a Magnificent Baddie. Furthermore, apart from Kingpin and Venom, he's the only Magnificent Baddie to originate from Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
