Nightmare is the overarching antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's series created by AIEchidna, co-written by Cypris the Toaster and FathomsBelow68.
Nightmare is the physical form of death that takes the manifestation of the fears of the individual it is hunting (In Michael, Jeremy, and Evan's case, it takes the form of Nightmare, a grotesque black bear with a yellow tophat). It is the archenemy of Freddy Fazbear (which the latter sees Nightmare as an annoyance) and later Tracy.
What Makes It Magnificent?[]
- Nightmare is very intelligent, cunning and strategic, perhaps on par with Freddy himself or even better, as he manipulated Freddy perfectly (for several decades up to that point) into having the latter believe he was a mere distraction, only to kill Freddy once the fire killed everyone else and Freddy had the chance to escape.
- Because of it killing those two, neither were able to continue on with their respective reigns of tyranny, Freddy especially given what a monster he was.
- Furthermore, it's skilled and competent, able to switch forms at anytime to use to it's own advantage and it's heavily implied Evan, Michael and Tracy weren't it's first victims to fall due to it's skillset.
- Nightmare was pitied against Freddy and Springtrap, one of the two evilest monsters in the series, and was able to kill both during their fateful events.
- It has genuinely funny moments at points, such as when Nightmare says, "L + ratio + cry about it, Fazbear." to an already angered Freddy.
- It shapeshifted into several nightmarish hallucinations of Freddy and friends to taunt Evan, which Evan had no idea about.
- It was able to trick William into dismantling the four classics, only to have the ghosts of the Toy Animatronics scare him into the Spring Bonnie suit.
- Furthermore, it was able to successfully trick Bonnie, Chica and Foxy into following him.
- Once it's bested by Tracy, instead of killing her unfairly, it spares her, telling her that it isn't Death's job to cause death, rather to collect it's remnants and thus allowing her, Matthew and Gary to leave before the 6 AM fire (knowing full well it wasn't their time to die yet). Then, rather than killing Michael itself like it had been yearning, it instead realizes Michael has accepted death, and lets him die peacefully in the fire. This also show it's affability.
- While Nightmare had killed Evan, it's heavily implied he had placed Evan in the Happiest Day sequence, allowing him and Michael to reconnect after Michael burnt down the fright, allowing Evan's soul to pass on peacefully.
What Makes It A Baddie?[]
- It hunts down and murders Evan (a 9 year-old) by crushing his vertebrae graphically.
- It haunts Michael throughout his time night guarding in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, both in Withered and Refurbished, all the while reminding him death will always prevail.
- It lied to William Afton into dismantling the four classic animatronics (most likely to get Freddy out of the way) then traps him in the Spring Bonnie suit for over thirty years, only to kill him once Michael lights Fazbear's Fright on fire.
- Traumatizes Tracy in her youth by missing a swing of a knife that was meant to kill her. It then hunts down and taunts Tracy once again once she sneaks into Freddy Fazbear's Pizza with her friends, including posing as her dead brother.
- Murders Grant (who hadn't even been close to dying) by tearing his body across the middle, along with several fracturing of his ribs.
Trivia[]
- It is the second version of Nightmare to be a Magnificent Baddie, the first version being Nightmare from Mike's New Ghostly Family.
- Nightmare genuinely hates kids cartoons due to their mocking of villains.
- Nightmare is also organic, but its true form isn't known.
- While Nightmare is referred to as a "he", it is actually genderless.
