I'm the peacemaker and I'll f-ck up anyone who gets in my way.
~ Nikita Khrushchev

Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev is the main protagonist of the 2017 political satire black comedy film The Death of Stalin, based on the graphic novel of the same name.

He is the First Secretary of the Moscow Party and a prominent member of Joseph Stalin's Central Committee. After the dictator's untimely death, Khrushchev begins plotting to take advantage of the power vacuum left in Stalin's wake. He is based on the real-life Nikita Khrushchev.

He was portrayed by Steve Buscemi.

What makes him Magnificent?[]

  • Acts like a fun-loving jokester in order to stay on Stalin's good side.
  • When Stalin dies, he begins to plan out several reforms in order to get the people on his side, such as cutting down on purges, releasing prisoners, and even reinstating the church.
  • With the NKVD replacing the Red Army as security in Moscow, Khrushchev has the trains full of funeral-goers resume their trip to Moscow in order to provoke a conflict between the civilians and the NKVD in order to ruin Beria's reputation.
  • Plots with Field Marshal Georgy Zhukov to oust Beria, planning to do so on the day of Stalin's funeral, when all of the Red Army is in Moscow.
  • In order to get all the Committee members on board, Khrushchev meets with them individually, and tells them the vote for the plan is unanimously in favor, in order to get them to approve the plot.
  • During the Presidium meeting, hits the signal for Zhukov to break into the building and arrest Beria.
  • Reads out Beria's crimes during his kangaroo court, showing disgust at the over 300 charges of rape the NKVD head is guilty of, leading to Beria's execution.
  • Eventually is able to outmanuever the other Presidium members in order to become the next leader of the Soviet Union.
  • Despite causing the deaths of around 1,500 people, Khrushchev still isn't that bad in comparison to guys like Beria and Stalin, who both have higher bodycounts and multiple examples of Kick the Dog moments and pettiness Khrushchev generally lacks.

What makes him a Baddie?[]

  • Was a member of Joseph Stalin's Committee and thus had a hand in approving the dictator's many purges, including the "Zolotov trials" which led to 42 deaths and 173 people being deported.
  • Orchestrates a confrontation between the NKVD and several mourners during Stalin's funeral to ruin Beria's reputation, causing 1,500 casualties.
