“ | This is a domicile, a residence, and thus protected by the Fourth Amendment from unlawful search and seizure. Did you see this drive in here? How do you know it runs? Did you actually witness any wrongdoing? It seems to me you're just out here fishing. Don't see that holding up in a court of law. | „ |
~ Old Joe to Hank Schrader. |
Old Joe is a minor character in the crime drama series Breaking Bad and its 2019 sequel film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. He is a junkyard owner who helps Walter White and Jesse Pinkman out of trouble from time to time.
He was portrayed by Larry Hankin.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He has a friendly personality and is willing to help people, even criminals.
- When Hank tracks down Jesse's RV and tries to enter, Old Joe points out he is violating the Fourth Amendment and stops him from finding a loophole, delaying his search and forcing him to look for a warrant. This buys time for Walt to trick Hank into leaving the junkyard. Joe destroys the RV afterward, erasing Walt and Jesse's links to the Heisenberg investigation.
- He sets up and sells an electromagnet to Walt, Jesse and Mike, helping them destroy Gus Fring's laptop (and thus the evidence connecting them to his drug empire).
- He offers to dispose of Todd Alquist's Chevrolet El Camino for free and aid Jesse in escaping from the police.
- Although he abandons his plans to help Jesse evade the police and flees when the El Camino's Lo-Jack is activated, it is not an act of cowardice or betrayal as he would have put them at high risk of being caught. He also tells Jesse to do the same before leaving.
- Since he is never seen again after that, he presumably got away with his crimes.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He helped Walt and Jesse destroy evidence of their criminal activities and get away from the authorities several times.
