COME, SIT WITH ME FOR A WHILE. I MEAN YOU NO HARM. MY NAME IS OLD MAN CONSEQUENCES. I SIT AT THE BORDER BETWEEN THE REALMS OF THE DEAD, ITS GUARDIAN AND PROTECTOR. I SENSE MUCH TURMOIL AND ANGUISH WITHIN YOU, YOUNG ONE. SPEAK YOUR MIND, CHILD, AND PERHAPS IT WILL SOOTHE YOUR PAIN.
~ Old Man Consequences introducing himself to Evan Afton at the Crimson Lake.
YOU WANT YOUR BROTHER TO PAY, DO YOU? WANT HIM TO KNOW HOW YOU FELT IN THE MOMENTS LEADING UP TO YOUR DEATH, HMM? THEN LET ME GRANT YOU YOUR WISH.
[Old Man Consequences sends the Nightmares to torture Michael Afton in his dreams, showing Evan his torments.]
AN ENTIRE CLAN OF DEMONS HAS BEEN UNLEASHED UPON YOUR BROTHER'S MIND, SENT TO TORMENT YOUR BROTHER WITH UNENDING NIGHTMARES OF VIOLENCE AND BLOODSHED AS PUNISHMENT FOR HIS MISDEEDS. IS SEEING YOUR BROTHER SUFFER LIKE THIS WORTH IT, EVAN AFTON? IS THIS ENOUGH TO SATISFY YOUR DESIRE FOR VENGEANCE?
~ Old Man Consequences scolding Evan for wishing suffering on his brother by granting his wish in the most unwanted way possible.

Old Man Consequences is the overarching character from Five Nights at Freddy's fanfiction Mike's New Ghostly Family, by Archcommander-Tenebros.

An enigmatic guardian of an afterlife antechamber known as the Crimson Lake, Old Man Consequences guides the deceased into the afterlife and keeps the demons in check, preventing them from wrecking havoc on Earth. Though normally neutral to affairs of Earth, he's still willing to aid the forces of good should evil threaten to violate the laws of supernatural.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • He's an extraordinarily powerful guardian of the afterlife, keeping demons in check and ensuring that they know their place, preventing them from leaving Hell.
    • To give you a full idea of how powerful he is, even Nightmare, an extraordinarily powerful demon who can end an army of millions with just three spells, won't dare to raise a hand against him and actually bows to him in respect the first time they appear together in the same scene, with the demon lord doing his best to stay in Old Man Consequences' good graces.
  • Despite his high position, his demeanor and personality are that of a wise and friendly old man who's always willing to give a helpful advice to people in need, thus giving a sufficient charm to his character.
  • He is also a pretty humorous character, making a plenty of comical dry comments and, in one of the funniest scenes featuring him, leaving Nightmare utterly dumbfounded by presenting a "Yu-Gi-Oh!" card as an analogy to the ritual he wants the demon to perform to destroy all Glitchtraps.
  • Even though he's normally neutral to affairs of Earth, he still managed to indirectly orchestrate the defeat and downfall of William Afton from behind the scenes with careful planning and guiding Afton's own children to put an end to their father's plans:
    • After Evan Afton passed away and ended up in the Crimson Lake, Old Man Consequences gently welcomed the boy and listened to his plights. As Evan cried about how Michael killed him on his birthday, OMC comforted him by assuring him that his brother didn't intend for a tragedy to escalate so quickly while also revealing that it was his father, William Afton, who made Fredbear dangerous enough to crush his head. Beforehand, he warned Evan that the knowledge would ruin the last traces of innocense within his soul, and only when Evan agreed to listen OMC revealed the information.
    • When Evan, with his built-up vengeful rage finally bursting out, starts wishing Michael to pay for his suffering, Old Man Consequences, displeased with Evan swearing vengeance on his brother, reprimands the boy by sending the Nightmares to torture Michael, showing him not only how horrible his brother's suffering was, but also revealing that Michael was genuinely remorseful for his accidental murder of Evan, thus ridding Evan of whatever vengeful urges he had. And even though he only allowed the boy to encourage his brother to fight back against the Nightmares once before cutting off the communication, he still allowed Evan to reunite with his brother once he'll pass Nightmare's trials.
      • Though him subjecting Michael to the Nightmares' tortures might seem to be too heinous, it was for an admirable goal, not only to have Evan realize his mistake of wishing suffering on him, but also to have Michael develop the necessary survival skills to ensure that he'll be able to stop William in the future, and to fill him with resolve and determination to redeem himself from his sins against his brother.
    • After ridding Evan of his thirst for vengeance, Old Man Consequences reveals the true reason behind the boy's death to him, showing that he actually died because William Afton unplugged his life support at the hospital despite the fact that Evan could've survived if his wound was treated sufficiently. Before that reveal, he actually gave an opportunity to Evan to just let him ascend to Heaven and rest in peace if the boy doesn't want to learn the full extent of his horrifying fate, an opportunity Evan ultimately refused.
    • Eventually, as Evan learned the full extent of his father's atrocities, Old Man Consequences presented him an opportunity to put an end to his evil once and for all, turning him into Shadow Freddy and having him guide Michael Afton into stopping William's evil. Even though he gave Evan an opportunity to refuse the call, and had him give Michael same opportunity as well, none of them took the opportunity, both determined to stop William Afton and end his evil for good.
    • Ultimately, Old Man Consequences managed to singlehandedly orchestrate the downfall of William Afton simply by guiding Evan and Michael into doing the right thing.
  • Per his guidance, Nightmare stops Vucarik's rebellion and is able to send William Afton back to Hell. Once Nightmare returns to the Crimson Lake, Old Man Consequences congratulates Nightmare on a job well done. When Nightmare comments on how impressed he was by Mike Schmidt's inner darkness, OMC scolds him by stating that he was wise not to corrupt him and should refrain from doing so at any moment in the future, with Nightmare admitting that he'd never act out on his fantasies and respects Schmidt's positive qualities as much as his negative ones. Afterwards, when Nightmare explains about how displeased he was by the fact that he failed to break William Afton when Mike was able to do in one sitting, Old Man Consequences advices him to target his pride and arrogance instead to break him, thus motivating Nightmare to set up a new torture for Afton, known as the "Ultimate Custom Night".
  • At one point, Old Man Consequences invites Mike Schmidt to the Crimson Lake for a chat, discussing some topics and answering some of his concerns, such as answering that original families of the ghost children are now pleased by the fact that their relatives are now living their peaceful afterlives with Mike as their new parental figure, and also passing his birth father's regrets to him that he wasn't able pass personally due to being forbidden by Heaven from reuniting with his son. Afterwards, he reveals the true reason behind bringing Mike Schmidt for discussion: to warn him about Fazbear Entertainment coming back and preparing Mike and his ghost children to fight back against them when the time would come. Before parting ways, he talks with Mike about the man's inner dark side, and when Mike answers how he hates how his dark side is a part of him, but won't hesitate to bring it forth to defend his family, OMC is pleased with the answer, but warns Mike that he'll end up bringing out his inner darkness once more in the future and that he won't be able to hide it from his family forever. His warning would eventually be proven true when Mike Schmidt ended up exposing his worst qualities in front of the ghost children when fighting Glitchtrap while empowered by Nightmare's Anathema Curse.
  • Once Fazbear Entertainment publicly reveals its revival and plans to release their newest VR game (all copies of whom were infected with Glitchtrap), Old Man Consequences orchestrates the destruction of the majority of Glitchtrap copies with some careful planning:
    • First, he sends Shadow Bonnie to tell Nightmare to come to him and discuss the plan of action on how to deal with the threat of Glitchtrap, requesting that Nightmare brings a copy of the game with Glitchtrap inside. When Nightmare states that he needs to have his presence on Earth prolonged, OMC noticed that Nightmare would try to use it for his ulterior goals, but grants permission to stay on Earth for longer time as long as Nightmare focuses on task, also stating that Nightmare must assist Schmidt unconditionally, without requesting anything in turn and, to ensure that the demon lord would not divert his attention from the mission, threatens Nightmare into obedience by promising horrible consequences should the demon betray them. When Nightmare complains about how his threat was unnecessary, Old Man Consequences simply dryly jokes about how a pragmatic character like Nightmare should know the value of precautionary warnings, no matter how unnecessary they may seem.
    • Once Nightmare brings him the copy of the game, Old Man Consequences teaches the demon lord a normally-forbidden ritual that would allow him to destroy all copies of Glitchtrap at once, barring those that already escaped their game copies. Once Nightmare sets the date when to perform the ritual (five days later at midnight, waiting for Schmidt to prepare his alibi), Old Man Consequences oversees the performance of the ritual, with Nightmare and his clan successfully destroying all Glitchtraps, except for one that managed to escape. With their job well done, Old Man Consequences congratulated the Nightmares on successfully completing their task and promised to reward them for their service, all while continuing to observe the Schmidt family's efforts to put an end to Glitchtrap's plans.
  • Once Nightmare was outraged by Fazbear Entertainment's incompetency and tried to get them to cooperate with Mike Schmidt, requesting permission to mentally torture Fazbear Entertainment's executives, Old Man Consequences gave him one, but set limitations forbidding him from killing anyone, causing permanent damage to their bodies or minds, driving them to insanity, and demanded that he leaves their minds as soon as they comply with his demands.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • Although it was for an admirable goal (to have Evan abandon his thirst for vengeance against his brother and to develop Michael's survival skills and resolve to redeem himself), he still sent the Nightmares to subject Michael Afton to horrible tortures in his dreams, with the demons gruesomely and painfully murdering him over and over again while mocking and condemning him over his sins to break his spirit.
  • To ensure that the demon stays on track when completing his mission to destroy the multiple Glitchtraps, he threatens Nightmare with gruesome punishment, even force-choking the demon to make him cooperate, even though Nightmare is reliable enough to take his mission seriously and not jeapordize it for petty reasons, simply as a precautionary warning.
  • Even though he did set the limitations to regulate his behavior, he still gave Nightmare permission to torture Fazbear Entertainment executives in their dreams in a way not too dissimilar to Michael Afton's torments.
