Poppy Prescott is the tritagonist of Illumination's 15th full-length feature film Despicable Me 4, the fourth installment in the Despicable Me film series.

She is an inhabitant of Mayflower and the next-door neighbor of Chet Cunningham. After discovering that Chet is actually Felonious Gru, she blackmails him into helping her steal Lenny the honey badger from Lycee Pas Bon, an esteemed villain school which Poppy hopes to attend.

She was voiced by Joey King, who also played the young Talia al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises.

  • She was the only person smart enough to realize that Chet Cunningham was Felonious Gru.
  • She's shown to have respect for other villains.
  • She has a sympathetic goal of wanting to get into Lyce Pas Bon so she can become a renowned supervillain.
  • She had a brilliant plan get the attention of Lyce Pas Bon by stealing Lenny, and the end of the movie shows that this plan was a complete success.
  • While her revealing Gru's identity would endanger his family, it's ultimately fairly tame since many villains have kidnapped and even tried to kill Gru's family.
  • She is able to think on her feet, as she used her hair clip to pick a lock and used Principal Übelschlecht's flying car to escape.
  • She forms a genuine friendship with Felonious Gru, to the point where she's honorable choses to keep his identity a secret.
  • Despite him being her hostage, she treats Lenny with affability and proves to be a much better owner that Übelschlecht.
  • While she did have a cowardly moment where she tried to stand up to Lenny but starts running away when he charges at her, she subverts her cowardice by helping Gru fight the much more dangerous Maxime Le Mal.
  • She's overall one of the most affable villains in the series.
  • While she does have comedic moments, they don't detract from her magnificence and are much more dignified that the slapstick many of the other villains are subject to.
  • She joins along with Gru and Maxime in singing Everybody Wants To Rule The World.

What Makes Her a Baddie?[]

  • She blackmailed Gru into helping her steal Lenny the Honey Badger, also stealing Principal Übelschlecht's flying car in the process.
  • Her entire plan in blackmailing Gru was so she could go to a school for supervillains and because she got in, it’s very likely she’ll be a supervillain in the future.

Trivia[]

  • She was originally planned to be the main antagonist of the film, though she was replaced by Maxime in the final version. It's unclear if or how this would have affected her status.
